Has anyone actually had a bike stolen whilst having a Litelok X3 attached?

Hello all,

After the third attempted theft of my R1200GSA from my home, I bought an X3 (it took 2 weeks to come). I have read how fantastic they are...great, but has anyone actually had theirs cut through and bike stolen?...how long did it take, how many discs..is it as tough as they say or not? I have seen videos of people demonstrating how hard it is..again great, but was wondering if anyone has actually had theirs cut through and bike stolen? I may now have gone a bit overboard, but now have 8 bits of lockable security on her, tracker and ground anchor.. better safe than sorry!

Their last attempt I disturbed them and was threatened with a running angle grinder.. fun times!

Now that all the fantasists have had their say….

The X3 (and similar locks) are very good, especially at reducing the chances of a simple push away theft. It will do nothing though to stop a bike being lifted and lobbed into a van. Why? Because as with many locks and chains, the bike is simply secured to itself. You though, have reduced this risk by layering your protection.

Don’t be too influenced by “I use X, Y, Z and my bike has never been stolen” or those that say “I never do anything. My bike has never been nicked”, that is simply due to the magical pound of butter in their fridge.

Bennetts ran some numbers on their customers and claims. Broadly speaking, a bike that has a disc lock fitted is a third as likely to be stolen as one without any security and a bike with heavy-duty security (top quality lock, chain) is statistically as likely to get stolen as the average car.

Obviously location, bike value etc. are all valid variables. The Litelok and Hiplok D-locks are good products. It amazes me how many bikes and scooters I see in London with a crappy ÂŁ30 Amazon disc lock. One smack with a club hammer and they shatter.

Portable angle-grinder attacks make the headlines but most thieves don't use one as they'll be going equipped. Most of the time they just need to snap the steering lock.
