Had an issue with the horn coming on by itself this morning. Haven't had an opportunity to look at it yet as I've just got to work. Pulled over and disconnected it as I was getting funny looks. I'll take apart and clean the connectors and the inside of the switch gear this evening if possible... anything else I need to check? Is the horn controlled by the magic can bus or is it a simply switch/relay/horn type circuit?

Thanks,

Mark

What year is the bike?
My 09 GSA is wired of the canbus which I changed recently so the canbus connection now controls a relay for a bigger horn.
Most likely the switch contacts on the horn button Id check there first and give them a clean.

You should be able to track the fault down with a DMM and a needle probe......My guess is water ingress at the switch or below (start at the easiest to access place, probably at the horn connections, then work back), given how wet it's been this week.

It's worth looking at even if it stops, as it will happen again if it is water ingress and as well as a short circuit, you'll be up against potential corrosion as well.

I used to just patch and bodge stuff up, but after spending literally days stripping back looms on Landies where the copper wires had gone black inside their sheaths WAY back beyond where I would have imagined it possible, I have changed my way of thinking and if anything, I go the other way.......fix it properly and fix it once. :thumb2

Can't argue with the philosophy though black wires generally means they've been overloaded.

Black wires means there soaking aswell or have been
If its been overloaded to the point where the copper is discolored then you will be able to smell it.

No, it went off in a straight line just as I joined the queue for a roundabout... most embarrassing.

The bike gets wet a lot and the ride yesterday probably blew a lot of water around the electrics. I put the bike away in the garage last night warm to give it a chance to dry out. I'm going to take off the bodywork and tank and inspect/clean all the connectors I can find. I've gone and got some dielectric grease which I'll use on the connectors to keep the water out in the future and then go from there.

Cheers,

Mark

In fact canbus would trip it way before that (overloaded to the point of black and smelling)
