If so what are they like through their lives? My Avon Distanzias have been quite poor performing in the wet IMO and now they`re down to the last 1mm of legal tread are even worse :(
So it`s a toss up between the Conti TA`s or the old Tourance. Hopefully I`ll get a set that will last me from now until I get back from my France jolly of 3k + miles
Pics of well worn tyres to entertain the masses will be gawped at :D

If you don't venture off-road why not get a set of Mich PilotRoad2's?

I got to 5,000 miles on a rear Tourance 1, and thought there was another 2,000+ miles left - looking at the depth of tread.

The final 3 mm of tread disappears very quickly, and the shoulders went from "reasonable" to "bitched" in the space of 50 miles of twisties:

The Pilot Road 2 is a cracking tyre - didn't realise that they did a fitting for the GS1200 front?

Now on my 3rd set of Trail Attacks - The last pair took me to 8k, with at least another 2k left on the front. Handling was as good at the beginning as at the end. They are my weapon of choice for wet weather conditions, the only criticism I would have is that in cold conditions they take a while to come up to temperature which means in practise that they are a little "rigid" and can be skittish for the first couple of miles ( I am being picky mind you) As you long as you are gentle with them in these conditions, they are pretty much a vice-free and confidence inspiring !

Cant compare them to Tourances I am afraid as my memory isnt that good and the new Tourances are a substantially different tyre

I`ve had some Pilot roads but I also believe they don`t do a 19" front

Reasonable to bitched eh :D I like your terminology :D :D

Sounds good `nuff :thumb2 The grip in the wet is a big one, they all grip good in the dry

I`ve had a price of £200 ish for Tourances so I`ll price a pair of TA`s too

Can't speak for the conti's though I have just worn out a pair of Road Attacks in 6000 miles and after the first 2000 they handled dreadfully. Have had 2 sets of the Tourances and in my opinion they were great tyres. Great grip, feel and handling wet and dry, plus I got 7-8000 miles out of them. I'm thinking of getting another set fitted but am considering BattleWings.

Bit of a minefield this tyre choosing lark :D
I priced both Tourances and TA`s and I can get them for £166 per pair so theres no difference in price to sway me :nenau
This will be the 4th set of different tyres on this bike :D
Dunlop D607`s 8/ 10
Pilot Roads 8/ 10
Distanzias 5/ 10

I recommended Tourances to a friend of mine recently and he is well happy. I couldn't fault them personally. I'd hate to tell you to get 'em and then you end up disappointed, but I'm quite confident you'd like 'em.

Good point. The Bridgestone 020's are a road biased tyre and I can honestly say that they felt no better than the Tourances and gave less mileage. I don't know if it's because of the tyre sizes or the high riding position but although the 020's felt brilliant on my previous bikes (ST1300 and Blackbird) I had no hesitation in returning to tourances once they'd worn out. Best of luck with your final decision.

P.S. Don't believe those that say there isn't a bad modern tyre. There most certanly is.:rob

I've just gone the other way...
Mine was fitted with Battlewings as OE and I've just changed to Tourances (original flavour not EXP) so I'll tell you my thoughts soon.
the BW managed 6000 miles for the pair, a lot of that two up or full luggage and two up....
even near the death of them people were saying how close the panniers were to touching down so the handling was fine.
the only thing I noticed was a slight increase in tramlining but that could have been more the slight flatting off after a long M-way run rather than the tyre degrading.
I'm hoping for good thing from the Tourances, but as I only fitted them tonight I can't even give you a first impression comment...

I did however only pay £160 fitted and balanced...:thumb2

£160?...Where was that?.....was that ride-in or loose wheels?

I've had 3 pairs of Tourances since I got the GS and the first 2 set's returned just over 12k. Happy with the all round performance of em both wet 'n dry. Tried a pair of Heidenaus?...can't go wrong at their prices but returned to Tourance again after trying Road pilots....nearly due for new ones again now and Tourance it'll be again...especially at £160:)

I have the ability to fit tyres, well I fit all my own :thumb2

Loose wheels.....My local tyre place...Knaresborough;)

I got 8,000 out of a rear Tourance and 12,000 out of a front, it was only the fact that the were about to become very illegal that I changed, was happy all the way through their life with the performance, rain or shine.....:thumb

More than likely I would, in an ideal world I`d try both :D I`m leaning more toward the TA`s as imo they`re a more road biased tyre with a deep chunky tread

Had a look at the tread on my rear TA tonight as it is starting to look a bit square. 3,000 miles has the tread down to about 5.5 mm in the middle. The front is almost untouched. They do ride well and there is no noticable drop off in performance or feel yet.

I'm still on my original Tourances after 20,000km. front still has 3mm and back 5mm. They have warn very evenly over the conplete width of the tire, no sqauring off even though I do a lot on motorway riding.

Still handle great. And I'm still very confident in the wet, and we get a shit load of rain in Malaysia.

I guess mine will be renewed soon, and I will definately be putting on the same tires again.

I've had an 1150 and now a 1200, both on sets of Tourances.

IMHO they are a great tyre, good grip all over, but any tyre will square off unless used for racing / track days only. I do a lot of motorway miles so I can expect that really.

michilin anarkee's on mine 9000 on the rear 1.5 mm tread left should get well over 10000 very good in the wet, phoned watling tyres gravesend £98.00 fit and balance on loose wheel should get approx 12000 out of the front at currant wear rate.I am reluctant to try other makes in case i am lumbered with a tyre i dont like.
just my 2p

I run a Trial attack rear and a tourance front, works great, but I will be going back to a tourance rear, just because iI got a new one for £50 a few months back:augie
