I've narrowed my choices for cases for my R1200GS to Caribous (IE: Pelican cases) or maybe the Hepco-Becker Xplorers. I can find lots of reviews and opinions all over the web for the Caribous, but almost nothing regarding the Xplorers.

Does anyone actually own a set of the Xplorers, and care to offer some thoughts?

A.

Had a new pair fitted to my old bike.... a Tiger 1050... nicely made with an easy on/off mechanism... H&B locks are good. The lids had a hinge fitted that enables you to either open them or hinge them back further to completely take them off.....the hinge has interlocking plates... quite innovative

The frames had a QR system also....A good idea that meant you didn't need to carry around the frames if you're riding your bike without the panniers...

Only problem with the Tiger 1050 fitment is that there wasn't a lot of clearance from the pillion footrests, not a problem if you always ride solo.... more of a problem if you carry SWMBO ;)

I'd check there's clearance on your rear pegs before you commit .....

Overall a well made pannier system

What sizes did you fit to the 1050?

I've got the HB Xplorer Topbox. Its the same construction as the cases with the toothed hinge , plastic upper lower with alloy plates riveted and glued into the sides top and bottom. its not bad, key is fiddley and the hinge is suceptible to breakage if the wind catches an open lid, lost a couple of teeth off mine, since then I take more care and never leave the lid open in windy conditions and take care with it in general.
my gut feeling is they wont be the strongest cases if subject to a fall and if I was spending the moola again I would think about a touratwat instead, though when I got it the choices were limited to the HB Gobi or ones that looked like tin boxes (ignoring the oem options for a Yamaha Tenere).

I have the black Xplorer H+B top case. I find it to be a good sized box but in less then 5 months, the plastic inter-locking teeth hinge has developed 2 cracks. This means that the lip doesn't stay vertical when opened. I believe the plastic hinges can be replaced. It would be better, in my opinion, if some strings/cables can drilled & attached (as in the vario cases) as support so the lid doesn't get stressed overly when opened.
