Just trying to re-install xp as my pooter has been slowing down over time. I have a 250 gig HD but it is only showing 135 gig when i try and part it. Jumper settings have to been touched anyone got any idea's

Thanks in advance

delete any and all partitions, reboot from CDROM and follow instructions should be a straightforward installation

have done the above. When i boot i delete all parts and it only show 135 gig of unpart space ?

Found the answer. I am using an xp disk that is pre sp1 and it didn't support anything bigger than 137 gig

Carry on with the installation, and when it's complete check the properties of the c drive and you may well find that it will show the drive at the correct volume, I'm currently using a 300gig drive and I'm pretty sure I had the same thing happen. And also remember that whilst the drive may be marked as a 250gig that isn't the actuall size which will be somewhat smaller.
My drive is externally labelled 300gig, but that equates to 279gig upon installation

Make sure you download the relevant service packs.

If you want a copy of service pack 2 which will save you a bit of download time pm address and I'll post a copy tomorrow.
