Is that Forest Gump commentating? "Racing Harleys is like a box of chocolates"

Nearly bought an XR1200 last year......and might still buy an orange, first generation ‘bike.

Well known issue with the plastic petrol tank ‘swelling’ then the cover doesn’t fit properly. Harley provided new tanks for ‘bikes under warranty, but didn’t actually sort the problem.

Sounded vaguely familiar......:augie

Harley build the most succesful racing motorcycle of all time :nenau

XR750

From Wikipedia -

"Riders on XR-750s have won 29 of the 37 AMA Grand National Championships from 1972 to 2008 inclusive.[2] Besides having more wins than any other bike in AMA racing, it has been called the "most successful race bike of all time",[2] and has a claim to have more wins than any other racing motorcycle in history.[5]"

Their Citation is the Bristol Evening Post who when you read it say its the most successful flat tracker. Take it with a pinch of salt.

Bristol Evening Post (Bristol, UK,), 19 June 2008: 46, "...the legendary Harley-Davidson XR 750 TM flat track racer - a no-nonsense, purpose-built race bike that has notched up more wins than any other racing bike in the history of the sport, this bike does not disappoint."

In the right hands even an Electra Glide makes a superb race bike. Subtract and few horses and add some width and away youse go.
