header pipes

hien gericke do some stainless steel cleaner, dont splash on anything else tho its strong stuff

If they are stainless then a dose of wonderwheels (ally wheel cleaing acid) followed by autosol applied with a stiff brush or even wire wool then polished up and they look like new. Unfortunately they go golden brown as soon as the bike is started but they stay shiny golden for quite a while.

I know wire wool sounds a bit too abrasive but it doesn't mark the headers as they are so much harder.

Not sure it's worth all the effort, so I'll go for chrome on my next boxer- they are suppossed to be a bit easier to clean and don't go rusty brown colour like the "stainless".

Autosol and a big pot of Elbow grease :thumb2

..........oh and mind you don't skin your knuckles.

Cleaning headers

Solvol autosol on wire wool, plenty of elbow grease. Finish with cloth.
BUT... it wont last long, they will quickly go back to "brown".
Smells nice though, the first time they heat up.:mcgun:mcgun

+1 :thumb2 the effect doesn't last long though, so do the decent thing and stick a set of remus headers on and let 'em go brown!
+1.

A bit of rain and they're looking shite again. The effort involved does not justify the results - unless you've a cleaning fetish.

You're right there. The effort does not justify the results. I do mine about twice a year which gives me nice shiny pipes for about 10 days out of 365. I did once pay my 15 year old son £5 to do them for me. Now that's money well spent!:bounce1

Peek Polish.................what the valeters use!
