I hope to go travelling in Europe next month and have been informed I require by law to have deflectors to change the angle of my dipped beam. I phoned my local BMW dealer who didn't stock such a kit and they suggested Halfords. I visited Halfords who only stocked a kit for car headlights. Anyone out there know where to obtain a kit or is it really necessary???

If the bike is an 1150GS, the headlights are adjustable, so you don't need the 'beam benders'. Don't know about the 1200, or other bikes, but certainly mine (1150) is adjustable for Europe.

For the bike I never bother with anything, however I do run the rear preload maxed and this brings the beam down anyway :thumb

For the car I have two slim triangles of black gaffer tape that stay on all the time.

EDIT - More importantly make sure you have a first aid kit, Hi-Viz waistcoat and spare lamps, these are more likely to be checked.

Don't tape it!

Used tape on mine for a trip to Spain last year and ended up with a cracked lens due to reflected heat! Expensive mistake!!:rob
Cheers, Rob.

My American spec. 1200GS passed the British SVA with no problems, with a tweak of the reflector adjustment....... :nenau
