Last week a bulb went on my 2013 RT, which I didn't replace as it was due a service next Tuesday (I know I'm a lazy bugger). Well today the other bulb went, is this normal ??

I don't know about normal, but I've had two go in quick succession several times in the past.

It's all to do with failure rates, lamps have a well defined lifetime 20,000 hours or whatever. As they were both manufactured and operated together, it is reasonable to expect them to fail within a similar timeframe. I'd recommend either changing one lamp after 6 months or so, or carrying a spare lamp kit.

I am amazed that BMW haven't fitted either xenon or LED main lamps to the RT as standard. The competition is way ahead of them in this technology.

Our's seemed to go every 12,000 miles or so.. Two different Twin Cams.

We carried spares until we ran out.

Quickest way to change them seemed to be to remove the side panel - unless have a 10 year old boy with double jointed elbows and wrist who knew which way to push the bulb holder springs..

When we ran out we bought a new one at a service station - apparently they do 24 volts versions as well as our 12 volts.

They aren't very bright though.:blast

I managed to change the nearside one, but I'll be buggered if I can do the other, I can just get my hand in but cannot move it. I only lost a couple of pints of blood but still have some skin left.

Who the 'ell designed that effing bracket ?? It'll have to go to the dealers.

My two bulbs also went in close succesion. To replace the offside one you need to take the offside side trim off. It's only a few screws. Otherwise yoy would need the long hands of a chimp to get to the bulb holder!!!!!!!!

I understand that there are two that fit the 1200. One is made for the RT and the other is made for the GS. The GS is tougher and suppose to last longer. At least that is what my tech told me.
