fed up with the standard bus company surplus headlight which is about as dim as a toc-h lamp (ask your granddad).
i've just been looking at touratech's offering
twin headlight 01-040-1210-0 £282.28:eek
ditto above with zenon main beam 01-040-1212-0 £526.78:eek:
does any one have experiance of these units or alternative idea's

I had a set of the TT twin ones with some glass lamps in them, they looked great and were about as much use as tits on a bull in the dark, I ended up with the standard 1100 bus headlamp with a dipping HID in it, complimented by a pair of Hella FF50s set at dip height, I can now ride unlit roads at night, although the standard 1100 light is fugly it does actually work.

It would mean a lot of work but a set of projector lamps from a Yammy R1 fitted with HID's would be stunning, 2 head and 2 dip beams if you could make them fit.

Or maybe http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=projector+beam+headlight&revid=259625004&resnum=0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=1hnGSr7PJo65jAfzo9VO&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=6

That was my master plan with the TT unit but there was not enough room in the headlamp shell to accomodate all of the gubbins that hangs off the back of the HID lamp.

I have left the headlamp as standard.. but augmented with a set of spots from 'How Much' of this parish.. £79 all in it was.. this for the bracket. two spots lamps. loom and waterproof switch.

I use them during the day for extra visibility.. and at night to augment the 'dip' which is inadequate on the 1100.

wired so they're powered when the light is either on sidelight, dip or main beam. which gives them the maximum usability. Nice and bright but rather low key compared to some of the extra lamps I've seen on many GS's.

Don't bother with extra lamps.. especially at those prices

I converted my (1150) headlamps with 50watt HID units, the improvement is fantastic.. absolutley fantastic!!

The 1150 has projector headlamps I believe which are ideal for HID. the 1100 doesn't.. and whats more the 1100 takes the H4 bulb which isn't great in HID format.

I am currently running a dipping H4 HID, it has been on the bike for a couple of years now, I chose a 6000k 35 watt unit, if I were to do the conversion again I would try a 50 Watt 4300k, mines just a little too blue compared to the yellower halogens, it does light up roadsigns etc a good quarter of a mile in front of me, the dipping function has proved good though one of my ballasts failed this year.

Hi, I run a set of standard lights on my GSA but have fitted a Touratech HID extra light on the LHS. The ballast is well hidden and the light comes on with the main beam - I find it excellent.

If it's a 1100 put a 80/100 watt bulb in it i did when i had my 1100 was like day light.

Cos I can't see at night (I'm colourblind) I thought I'dtry aset of HID50 spots and fogs. Pic shows standard dip beam and then main, fogs and spots all on. OK, the dip isn't quite as dim as it looks in the pic, but the main is brighter:D

Same set up as me, excellent bit of kit and very good price:thumb

My 1100 came with two pairs of auxiliary lights nailed to the front. One set works on dip and they all work on main. They work brilliantly.

My 1100 has the 50w 6000k bi-zenon bulb HID kit fitted .

Its 80% better than stock bulb set up.
The beam pattern isnt brill , but the bulb powers through to make a good light to ride at night at speed.:thumb2

the full beam isnt as good contrast as the H4 halogen bulb pattern, it projects a good beam ahead but is mor a spot spread , than a fuller spred like the halogen H4 bulb pattern.

There is a change in dip and full , and ye can ride ok , but it could be better.
i thinks its because there is olny on element and the sliding part just moves up and down.

Where as th H4 has two fillaments and you definatly notice a difference in the change from dip to full , also both elements are lit up on the H4 halogen bulb.

If its a very dark road i switch on my aux lights to fill in any dark bits.:thumb

HID is the way to go. ultimate 1100 set up is fitting the 1150 lamps in a made up housing to fit the 1100 head light. you will power up and light up the moon with that set up.

Time and money is ye only obstacle :augie

update

On the way to cadwell park on friday i went into motobins at surfleet and bought a xenon h4 headlight bulb £11.00 makers claim 30% more light,
road tested it on sunday night A153/A15 to peterborough it lights up the full width of the road has good cut off i.e no one was flashing me a definate improvement, i saw several vehicles with hid lighting some badly adjusted which were dazzeling when they hit bumps in the road it is like a flash gun including the well adjusted one's,
perhaps they are too effecent?? (sorry les:comfort:D)
