After reading so much about the crap lights and everyone fitting spots, I thought I had to live with the main beam set up being just above the dipped. I thought the only adjustment was the lever and screw adjuster behind the lights. Question....... Is the lever supposed to be left horizontal, adjusting the screw thread in this position? Or vertical [up or down] and then adjust the screw. I assume that horizontal is for solo riding and vertical is a quick adjustment for having fatso on the back?
Only found out that the main beam could be adjusted separately when I bought a CD manual from e-bay.
The set up of the bike from the main dealer was rubbish.

You don't need to flip the lever up or down to adjust the dip beam - in fact all that will do is give you a completely wrong beam when you flip it back to the horizontal position. You only need to flip the lever up to lower the beam if you are carrying a heavy weight on the back!

I think it was Alan (BTBR) who pointed out that the standard set up was crap - thanks mate, it's really made a big difference now I've banged the beam up a bit!

The std factory setting from new, are set far to low, hence the reason why everyone finds them so truly awful!!

Using the black plastic adjuster that you mention, you will find that you will be able to screw that in or out (cant remember which way?) quite a good fews turns in order to raise the headlights without dazzling other road users.

Then and because the two lights are linked you will need to lower the main beam headlight. This is done via the small screw which is just under the headlight unit at the front of the bike.

Take care mind, as this screw is made of cheese, use a well defined cross head screwdriver.

With a little effort, a dark night and the wall of the local B & Q you will improve the lighting no end.

It is also worth adding the 50% brighter bulbs to both light units, its cheap and very quick fix that offers some gains.

At the end of the day and dependant and how much night time riding you intend to do, it is only a matter of time before you fit extra fog & driving lights!

Hope that helps?

Cheers

I've got the 50% brighter bulbs and jusr fine tuned the main beam. As you say it is probably just a matter of time before i add lights. The problem is that the main beam is a spotlight, great for straight ahead, when cornering you either see where you've been, or will be , not where you are. If the main beam threw the light like a normal round headlight I.e. eliptical it would be OK. Although I think it is linked to the fact that the lights are not only fixed to the fairing! but so far ahead of the bars.

Can you tell me the specs for the brighter bulbs, please !!!!!!!

thanks

 For the 1150 they are H1 50 % brighter bulbs, which as the name would suggest, they are the H1 type and are.........well 50% brighter?

Is that what you are looking for?

Lidl were selling twin packs for £3.99 earlier this week.

Also, if you happen to be in France, LeClerc supermarkets have them for about 6 Euros. Several packs were bought on our recent trip to Normandy.
