I enquired with Paul G some time ago about organising a new National Event, as i had a couple of venues in mind. However, Paul rightly pointed out that there were already sufficient National Events being run, and that too many could be seen as detrimental to GS riders being able to meet up.
That said, and in response to those in the far north, i work shifts and often find i cannot attend events as time off work is nigh on impossible. There are also other events held in the north that i'm unable to attend due to time/cost considerations.
With Bryn hosting his last East Mids, i thought i would propose a new National Event to fill the spot he's vacating. If someone wants to take over from Bryn, and keep things in the East Mids, then i'm happy to keep things on a local level down here.
We've not really had a National SW Event for a few years now. Sid's event is mainly for Airhead owners and i feel that it could be a good time to offer an event for new riders to explore, and more veteran members of ukgser to rediscover, some really great riding territory.
I've only put a poll up to gauge the level of interest before going ahead with any plans. My apologies to Bryn if i jumped the gun a little, but sometimes, if you don't move quickly, someone else will jump in and grab the spotlight.
I'll happily put together an event that people want, be it local or national, and at present, i'm just trying to find out what people would like before going ahead.

Cheers Folks

I'd love to attend, the last one you did on Exmoor in 2006 was brill and I'd love to ride the Devon trails again

Kev and I definitely up for it:thumb

We've been saying for ages that we'd love to go to that part of England!!

I'm sure we could rope others from here too:pullface

would it be an idea to have two large nationals one down Devon or Somerset and one at least in Northumberland/N Yorks
if yer had um say each side of the school holidays (6 week apart) then alternate
the dates every year you may get the best of both ends of the country and at slightly different times of the calender
I love Devon nearly as much as Northumberland when its good weather
So I would like to attend both please :thumb2

I'm flexible with running this event. It may even be a good thing to run it bi-annually and share the limelight with a Northern based event. I'll go and see the site owners in the next couple of weeks to say hello and see what they can do for us. Oh, and yes, the site has toilets, showers and more!:thumb

Use to look forward to heading down to Princetown, but it seems it was too far for some of the adventure biking riding type.

I have two misgivings over Princetown. One's the weather, if it rains anywhere in Devon, you can guarantee it'll be wet and miserable on the moor, hence my looking for a new event site that's not in an exposed location, south facing for some warm sunshine, and accommodates hardy campers and those requiring a few more comforts from home. Second is the pub. In recent years the new owner of The Plume has done nothing to improve the venue and seems only interested in maximising his profit margins at the expense of providing good quality accommodation, good food and a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere with good service. I'm hoping i'll receive a positive welcome from my intended new location and the fact that there is a choice of an on site pub, and an independant, guide approved, pub nearby, i'm hoping we'll be well catered for.
I hope i can put forward an event location that, with the assistance of one or two ride leaders, will run itself with little else in the way of organising, bar placing all the relevant information on here.
I know i've not been that active on here for a couple of years, to be frank, i was feeling a bit jaded and my financial situation's not been too good either. As already stated, those that know me on here can, and already have, vouched for the event's i have run and/or assisted with in the past.
All i'm interested in is having a weekend meeting amongst good friends, both old and new, and keeping the format as simple as possible.

Sounds great:thumb spoke to T900 and Gslessgirl last night and they're up for coming over too:bounce1

Any idea when you'll be having this event?!

Cheers

I've had an email chat with Paul G and we're looking at May or September. Once i've been to see the site owner for an introductory natter, i'll then hopefully have some dates.

Hi Folks,

The event's got the go ahead from the site owner, all we need to sort is a date. I'm looking at running this in May, possibly the weekend of 18/19th to avoid the bank holidays, or we can possibly do the 4/5/6th and make a long weekend of it on the first bank holiday.
Let me know what your preference is and we'll see what we can come up with.
The site owner's going to send me some prices for the accommodation, but a ball park figure over our chinwag today was, £10 per tent for two nights camping and £5.50 for breakfast, to be ordered no later than the night before.
There's hard standing with hookups for wobbly boxes, B&B, two cottages and four static vans that sleep four in each, prices to be confirmed.
They can do breakfast, lunch, evening meals and take away, though they would prefer to know what people would like to eat from their menu in advance to make the order/cooking process easier for them.
All details to follow in the coming weeks, as soon as i get a clear idea of the best dates for everyone.

The Bank Holiday weekend would suit us better coming from Ireland:beerjug:

Would defo be interested in a cottage or static van please:thumb

The diary's filling up again:bounce1

May bank holiday would be a good plan here,,, sounds good fun to be had,lol...:beerjug:

Let me know firm dates when you know them please..
