Hopefully someone might be able to point me in the right direction here. I have a Autocom headset and boom mike fitted to one of my helmets but still find it to noisy when at motorway speeds and hard to hear my GPS when I have my ear plugs in. So I am on the search for some in ear speakers the sort fitted inside ear plugs and a throat mike. If these can be wired to my autocom plug I would have a transferable headset and probably a lot better set up than at present. I know this isn't going to be cheap but the current option is not in my opinion suitable.

There are various companies out there that will make you custom ear plugs from 40-100 quid that will accommadate autocoms etc.

Gazza,

speak to Judge. Andy has brokered a deal with someone to produce this very thing, which includes an adaptor to allow you to plug the earpieces into the Autocom plug (if I understood him correctly). Discount rates for club members :)

A few weeks ago, I was in the same quandary - with City Slicker's lead, I am now sorted.

I have opted for a set of custom made earplugs/speakers - the Duocom system which I obtained from Advanced Communication Solutions Ltd in Harpenden.

The results are impressive. I now have to turn the volume down on stuff like my GPS. To give you some idea, I run my SPIII on volume level 3 or 4 (out of 8) and can still hear Betty's dulcets clearly at 100mph. I also run my MP3 player at lower volume settings than I would use with regular ear-speakers.

This isn't a cheap option. The Duocom plugs were £188. You then have to modify the lead to accept a Nexus jack and buy an adaptor loom for your Autocom headset (available from Headset Services - an Autocom agent on the south coast).

I've just received my "ultimate" ear plugs (do a search and you'll see some reports on them). You supply the autocom headset and they make custom earplugs with a special tiny speaker inserted. The autocom headset is then adjusted with 3mm socket so you can plug a volume control in (supplied). The speaker earplugs then plug into the colume control.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the volume control in the pack (a f'up at Ultimate) - but I should get it tomorrow.

So far though - very comfortable (squidgy plugs for £10 more).

Cost £155 for the lot...

(doesn't sort the mike out though...)

Thanks

Thanks for all the replies, just need to talk to Judge before I go any further but if I can't get what I am looking for I am off to find someone who will make me exactly what I want. I want the whole kit to fit to me and not the helmet. The throat mike will probably present the biggest problem, but I feel sure there is someone out there who can construct this self contained kit. I would like to think there is a good market for this kit if I can get one or more built. Defies logic to have speakers in your helmet then have to stick plugs in your ear to keep out wind noise.

When I was there a few weeks ago, ACS were close to finalising their trials of the microphone also being mounted in the earplug.

With this and [picking up on another thread] a bluetooth link to the Autocom, you'd be getting close to Six Million Dollar Man technology!
