About 4 years ago I borrowed a friends R1150GS and took it down to Itally(long story) anyways I litterally had what I can only describe as bad sun burn on the tops of my feet and toes feet from the heat of the pipes under the bike. i put this down to cheap boots at the time.
I have a condition in my legs that makes the skin dry at times and this year I am taking the 1200 down to Itally again, now after a good ride out at the weekend I noticed my feet where very warm again, now being winter and cold this is not a problem but during the summer in Italy i can see this being a big problem again.

Is there anything i can fit to the bike that would deflect the heat away from my feet from the exhaust pipes under the bike???

I have tried different ways of riding toes on the pegs as in sports bike mode and foot further on the pegs but it makes no difference.

Wrap your boots in tin foil. Shiny side out:D

I suspect the answer is a number of different measures to limit the amount of heat to which your feet and legs are exposed. I'd suggest that good quality Outlast socks might contribute to the solution.

Having ridden in temperatures in excess of 40 deg C, on a couple of US trips, wearing my Wigwam socks under my TCX Infinity Gore-Tex boots, I've been perfectly comfortable.

Thanks guys, I think I will give the tin foil on the outside a miss though:D

Oh and them wally flaps are fookin disgustin, ill stick with dry hot feet before I fit those lol

You could try fitting de-catted headers - they should run cooler without the Cat ;)

Hot feet

I have big feet, and have ridden threough very high tempratures many times Death Vally, Nevada Desert to area 51 etc but have never suffered form hot feet from the bike. Can you try putting your feet in a different posititon?, how about fastway pegs? might give a different position and more support to your feet with better ventilation. Iused walking boots in these very hot rides as bike boots although recommended are just too hot, and in Death Vally and Nevada there is hardly any other traffic at all just lots of sand and heat!! and it does get bloody 'ot!.

During my sumer rides on the Cost del Sol. I find that wearing just flip-flops and Speedo's, keeps me nice and cool. But only if i keep my speed above 120mph, so the wind blast cools me down.
Though being hit by flies at that speed is rather painful, and rather messy.

I find just a periodic leg dangle/stretch cools my feet (+ decent boots, of course).
BTW.I also have a problem with dry legs. Often triggered by air-con (e.g. after long car journey/long haul flight). E45 lotion and only wear 100% cotton works for me. Wool makes me itch like hell and synthetics make me stink !!

+1.

However, I smear myself in Vaselene so the flies don't stick to my skin. Better than using a scouring pad to remove them in the shower.

Chrissake don't put it on the seat tho'.

Thanks jinny I suffer from lifodima (spelling) and I have to wear proper socks but will try better socks, got decent boots now as well so should be better

Easy....Sell the GS and buy a Multistrada...your feet will be ok although your pillion's bum may get hot from the underseat exhaust....:blast
Bee-ems have always been known for keeping your feet warm - its what they do best!

Tootsies

Fit some forward "crusing" footrests!, seemn them omn bikes in a us (bmw)
dealers fitted to crash bars, ok for long trafficless traffic in the US may be a bit aukward for commuting!.
