The heated grips (yes I do use them over here in Dubai, cold in the mornings now about 55F)

Mine are starting to split is that normal have got 32000kms on the bike just 2 years old. Is this the normal life span of heated grips??

Are they easy to change?? expensive to replace?? Can I do it myself??
Cheers Richard.:beerjug:

Richard, do you park your bike outside? I'd think it might be more to do with excessive sunlight & temperature than age or mileage....

Mike:)

2001GS also

Thanks for all the replys yes it is parked outside but I try to park it in the shade, not as often as I should have obviously.

The dealer agreed that they require changing soonish, but didn't mention any thing about warranty and until last year we only got 12 months anyway so she's well out of warranty. Any idea how much new ones should cost??

Take care all Merry Christmas.

I've not tried this on my 1150 yet, but it worked on my old R80GS....

Try and carefully cut the rubber grip off the tube it is glued to. They are only glued around the ends usually & the heating element is wrapped around the tube under the rubber grip so you need to be careful. Once removed, fit a new grip - it is the same grip as a non heated grip model so they only cost a few quid each. Carefully slide it onto the tube (lubricate if necessary ;) ) and glue the edges in place to seal it from water. You've nothing to lose by trying as new heated grips are about £40 each side.
