I have looked at the Nippy Norman Fastway foot pegs on his site and they seem huge, are they really that big in real life?

Having a ‘platform’ this big, does this not cause a problem with rocking your foot up & down for braking or gear selecting?

I have also looked at the Touratech adjustable ones, ok they are a bit more money and no dimensions are given on the site, but in the photo they do look more suitable. Has anyone got a pair of these fitted that can give me some dimensions and some better photos close up please?

Cheers,

Alan

I've got a pair of the Touratech adjustable pegs on my 1100 and they are okay - they are wider (from hinge to end of peg) than you think and I have the scrapes on the inside legs of my boots to prove it. Front to back they are about twice the width of the originals. I'll try to remember to get out and photograph them with a ruler for sizing when I get home - didn't come by bike today as I couldn't be bothered trying to slide it the 250 yards up my road to where they start gritting.

On the lowest (and furthest forward) setting I had to make quite major adjustment to the gear lever to move it forward and down to a point where I could comfortable use it but it still isn't perfect - on the 1150 I'd recommend going for the "adjustable lever and pegs" combo pack. I've since changed boots to something a little less flexible and now I'm waiting for a non-snowy day to get out with the allen key and spanner to raise the pegs up and back a little to get some more space between the lever and the pegs.

On the whole - good idea, much more comfortable, needs fine adjustment for best result.

On the other hand .... or foot !

I've recently fitted the Fastway pegs from NN, they are not adjustable as such but they do have two positions, high or low. I put mine on low and have no problem with gears or brakes. They are substantially wider but give a nice solid platform. The supplied grub screws do grip the sole of your boots, which would be a definite plus off-road, it can catch you out as it can take physical effort to move your foot, rather than just letting it slide off when you come to a halt. Very well made bit of kit.

Me too.
Eventually after 5 years with my 1150 I've fitted a pair of Fastway pegs from NN. I have them on the low position which is not only easier on the knees but gives a more comfortable standing position particularly when also using 25mm bar risers.

Gear change no real probs. Brakes? well I've got ABS so just stamp on the pedal anyway;)

Wish I had them 5 yrs ago:rolleyes:

Hi Alan

I have Fastway footpegs on my 1200. They are quite big and are well made items, especially when compared to BMW's own pressed steel ones. I especially like the increased width because the originals felt like they only came half way across my boot.

Nippy Norman does other, lower and more conventional looking ones but for £99.99p!

So I think that ascetically the Fastway's are great. They are more like jewellery for your feet!

In use I don't find that 'rocking your foot up & down' is an issue at all. I always move my feet to the levers anyway. They do feel different because the footpeg is too large to fit into the arch of the boot but I almost instantaneously became used to this.

I have the footpegs in the lower and back position and have a set of the smaller allen studs fitted and while yes, the pegs are slightly lower than standard it's not by a mile and I haven't needed to adjust my brake and gearchange levers, I just accommodate to the new position.

Maybe I should adjust them? I may have a play sometime.

Hope this helps, I'd recommend them unless you want to go appreciably lower and then I'd say try the others.

Picture as promised, with handy dandy home-made (well, office-made) rough centimetre scale.

That's a Touratech adjustable footpeg on an 1100GS that is...

Do you want a couple from other angles?

Cheers for that, have you one from the side with maybe a touch more light on them so I can see them in more detail......;)

Alan

I'll take a couple in t'morning when (I hope) there will be more light. Or I'll have a reflector to bounce the flash since I'll be out about 7:00am :D

Alan, do yourself a favour and buy the Fastway pegs, there great :thumb

Can't fault Fastways, I found the brake lever too low until I fitted them. Nice and comfy to stand on, which I like to do at every opportunity..........just because you can on a GS :) Quite exhilarating at 80 ;)

See here for lots of pics of mine fitted :)

My neighbours already thing ms trotsky and I are a bit odd what with not being married and having no kids in a terribly middle class area and both going to work early. Taking photographs of a motorbike at 7:00am in the snow isn't going to help...

I think Whatton might be right. The Touratech pegs look like they might be more robust, but the Fastaway pegs look more practical for general use. If you are thinking about a lot of off-road though, then TT might win.

Many thanks for all the time that you have gone to taking the pictures. Before doing anymore I will wait till I get the seat and then take it from there.

I do prefer the look of the Touratech ones over the Fastway ones, but everone that has the Fastway pegs rate them so much.
Plus the price is good as well......

Hopefully the seat wil arrive tomorrow....thats funny, I said that yesterday didnt I?
