Hein Gericke after service

Just got to say what absolute shit Hein Gericke after service is just purchased an Arai tour x helmet from the Leicester branch £350.00. But after about 2 hours it causes a severe pain across the forehead and its that bad I have to stop to remove it, went back to the shop and the manager told me to compress the polystyrene at the front of the helmet with a spoon, or to buy a thinner skull cap insert which would cost me another £40.00 . :spitfire He then said that most people don’t have a helmet on for that long:tosser.{ I don’t remember reading not to be worn for more than two hours on Arai’s web site} Got in touch with HG UK head office customer service and it’s we have your money so what can you do about it attitude. And the manager of the Leicester branch now says he said some people do that but he never told me to :spitfire. lying bastard Any way if I ever buy a helmet from there again {not} I will sit in the shop for two hours to make sure it doesn’t hurt before giving them my money.

Unfortunately..........

............Pretty much every M/C clothing store has a policy which basically states " If the helmet has left the shop then you can't return it unless its faulty "

Yes I know but I would have thought they would do a discount on the skull cap insert.

Bought a helmet from Webbs of Lincoln a couple of years ago - decided after 3 days I wanted in another colour and they were more than happy to exchange it :thumb

As for Hein Gericke, I'm surprised at their attitude. Even if it has been worn - surely its difficult to fully judge how a helmet fits unless it has been worn for a few hours :nenau

You're kidding, right... You tried it on, said it's ok & then used it for a while... Then you decide it's not right & want to take it back or have HG sell you something cheap, to make up for your error of judgement. You wouldn't expect to be able to take a pair of shoes back that started to feel tight, after you've worn them for a while, would you? If there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the helmet, it was suitable for the purpose for which it was bought, when you bought it ie: it will protect a head.

I know it won't feel good, but you can't really have a pop at HG, when they've not really done anything wrong...

If I paid £350.00 for a pair of shoes yes I would take them back but then perhaps I shouldn’t wear them for more than two hours

Simon,
Remove the liner from the inside of the helmet, then with a craft knife trim the front edge of the polystyrene until it does not dig into your head. You most likely only need to 'shave' a thin wedge of of the front adge. It will not compromise the safety of the helmet at all, in fact if you paint it black again afterwards it would be very hard to even notice.

I have had to do this to a couple of helmets that i have bought out here in Thailand as they are shaped slightly different to fit the Asian shape bonce.

When done you can refit the original liner back into the helmet.

Job done.

My Tour-X was tight on my forehead after a couple of hours, I took it off, compressed the offending section with my thumbs and it was fine after that :thumb

Both my Arai's and also my System 5 helmet hurt my forehead for a while until they bedded in with use. They now fit perfectly, and I'm glad I didn't buy a bigger size as they would now be too loose.

Maybe you need to endure it a little longer and it will become more comfortable??

As for H-G, I've always had top service from them, sad to hear they aren't as customer focussed as they once were.

I had a similar issue with the BMW System 4 helmet I bought a few years back.

I too compressed the liner a little with my thumbs and it made a big difference. H-G have been very good to me in the past. Perhaps that branch isn't as switched on as some of the others?

Thanks a lot for all of you positive advise it’s great to see some of you out there that come on here to help and not just try to have a dig :clap

Contact Arai uk and explain your problem!

I got in touch with Arai UK they said there would have gave me the thinner skull cap free of charge. But when I told HG this they just said that’s news to us :banghead:. Any way going on holiday now so can’t reply for a while :Motomartin.

I had the same problem at HG in Leicester with my Cruise jacket, I had to bring it back as it was falling apart. Told by Andy the shop manager 'it was because I was wearing it everyday'!! This coat cost £350 !! He did change it.
The second one lasted a bit longer, 7 months then same problem. Back to see Andy, again it looked like it was my fault, for not having the jacket done right up to the top every time I put it on!! He said the salesman would of told me this when I brought it.

He phoned head office and they offered me a refund, so can't complain to much.
Brought the new master v 5 (?) £500 (£300 off for old jacket).
Great jacket, but just starting to fray at the collar. But that's my fault for wearing everyday!!

I had the same problem with an Aria Tour X, temples hurt like hell after about 30 minutes.
Although when purchasing the supplier did explain that they could not take back helmets once worn. I still rang in the hope that this policy would be relaxed - no luck - but as I`d accepted this policy upon purchase I could`nt really argue when they regretably confirmed there policy.
So stuck it on FleaBay & got more for it than I`d paid so was more than happy.

Peterborough Hein Gericke - brilliant service always. Used them on numerous occasions, never had a problem, found them very helpful :clap:clap:clap

 well I wouldn't buy a helmet from there knowing that it might not be new.

Shoes are not really the same as helmets:
- one goes on your head rather than your feet
- one is designed to safe your life

I've found HG :thumb2

the best advice I had when lid buying was to wear it around the shop for 20 minutes. I felt a bit of a :tosser, but I discovered that I had a Arai head rather than a Shoei one this way

I bought a Shark Helmet during the "half price" Sale a couple of years ago at the Chester branch. At £140 I thought it was a bargain. The guy who sold me it was very thorough making sure the "Fit" was right. I thought it was a bit on the tight side but listening to the "expert" I followed his advice. Two years on and its still not comfy. Wish I still had my old Shoei.

I've only ever used HG in Purley an always found them very helpful.

I have taken items back and never had a problem with getting a replacement or refund.

As for the helmet, I agree with HG not accepting it back. You could have dropped it for all they know, plus what are they going to do with it, I wouldn't want a used helmet.
