I wonder if anyone has experience of either the Maxwell Gore Tex Suit or the Master IV suit (both supplied by Hein Gericke) in warm summer conditions. Which is likey to keep me cooler ?. The Maxwell has vents in the chest and back while the Master IV has vents in the arms. I hope to do some continental touring next year and would appreciate any advice that can be offered.

I have a Voyager jacket, with the liner in its plenty warm enough in winter, without the liner in its cool enough in summer but I prefer my HGC suit in summer.

Take a look at the Tuareg UTILITY suit its magic, has a removable liner for summer, is waterproof and has pockets in the right places, perfect for GSer's.

Sounds good, I was thinking about some kind of all-weather gear after a torrential down pour that I was caught in the middle of yesterday evening, waterproofs still haven't fully dried out today!! :(

Couldn't find details about that (Tuareg) on the HG website, how much was it approx?

Hi Jimb,
Many thanks for your reply,
You refer to your HGC suit, apologise for my ignorence but which suit is this, also re the Toureg suit, is this suitable for on road use as against offroad. Their brochure seems to promote it as an offroad product.

hg jacket

hi been looking at hg jackets myself master 4 seems better allround, vents, high storm neck £300 .i would have gone for the toueg myself but is only waterproof when the liner is in ,ok in winter but to hot in summer when it dont rain ha ha ,toureg costs £210.have a look at the belstaff coats very nice and same price £210/300:beer:    .where will you be touring, wherever have a good trip gerry wallbank.

Master IV

I bought a Master IV jacket this year before heading off to Spain. I did it the year before in leather which was very uncomfortable. It kept me cool in 40 degs heat and also dry on the one day it rained. I'ts well made and has protection in all the right places. Ive just put the lining back in and its warm enough for a British winter. In short it does exactley what is says on the tin.

I have unpicked the elastic round the cuffs for a bit of extra breeze up the arms.

Whatever you go for enjoy the ride:beerjug:

The HGC is a Gore tex cruiser suit and very comfortable when its hot ' cos it breathes but its made of analine leather so its waterproof.

The Tuareg to look for is the Utility Jacket and pants this is their top of the line on & off road touring kit, Jacket is £259.00 I think.

Roadrider is right though the BMW rallye 2 is also excellent.

Master IV - Best suit I have ever had!! Comfortable, well made, waterproof (I live in Manchester!) breathable and warm. I have only just attached the thermal inserts and all I wear under the jacket is a shirt and tie.

Clover Interstate

I've had one of the above for about 3 years now. Waterproof membrane bonded to outer fabric with zip out thermal liner - so waterproof in summer without liner in. Good adjustment straps on sleeves so the (excellent) ce armour doesnt move about when worn without lining. Whole lot machine washable, & using Nikwax wash in proofer means the whole lot has stayed 100% waterproof throughout, in some prolonged downpours (ALL the way back from Alsace last year) 700 miles & not a drop let through. At about £220 (when I bought it) it certainly gets my vote for all season kit - OK its no BM Airsuit but they're strictly summer only.
