HEIN GERICKE NEW NEXUS GORE-TEX

Anyone out there got one of these jackets? Seems good value for Goretex, or is there a catch..?

I know how good Goretex is at keeping the rain out, but have no experience of Hein Gericke gear.

Is it any good?

Your musings and observations will be greatly received!

hi deano , i wear a hein gericke gore tex jacket and find it good , put the zip in linner in when the weather i scold and take it out for summer always kept me dry so i would give it the thumbs up in my veiw :thumb2

Is it Gore-Tex Pro Shell (seems unlikely for 200 quid) or Performance Shell...? The blurb on the website is confused -

{edit} It's Performance Shell - says so on the jacket itself {/edit}

With the increasing use of Pro Shell, we're probably seeing the beginning of Performance Shell jackets dropping in price.

What's the difference? Only ask as I was looking at their Journey jacket yesterday and it seemed v good value.

Performance shell is your standard old Gore-Tex with a Cordura (or sometimes other polyester) face fabric and a Gore-Tex drop liner inside that. The downside is that although the face fabric will have a DWR water-repellant coating, it can still "wet-out" in very heavy rain and that stops the Gore-Tex membrane from breathing.

Pro Shell is a 3 layer fabric where the layers are bonded together. The face fabric often includes Armacor. This is much less prone to "wetting-out" and obviously Armacor being a Kevlar / Cordura fabric is much more abrasion resistant. It's also much more expensive.

Yep!!!!!

I've got one of these jackets and I am very pleased with it.... Haven't had a chance to properly test it's waterproof ability as yet but all signs look promising. Very warm through the winter and the quilted liner works a treat. Jury's still out on the Gore Lock-out zip but it seems to work ok...

Only down side I can comment on is it's use during hot days. I've been spoilt over the past few years with a RP2 which IMHO is the best summer suit available. Unfortunately, I suffer in the heat and the Nexus leaves my arms feeling like they are sticking to the liner of the jacket. Not a problem with the netted liner of the RP2 which is probably what I'll end up buying again.....:blast
