Ian 1200 GS Adventure

Guest
Hello, whilst passing my local BMW dealer on my 56 plate Hayabusa, did the fatal thing and test rode an Adventure. Went back and bought it the next day! Had it about a month now, 1500 miles, and well happy!

Seem to use it a lot more than the Busa, and just had a week in the Isle of Man on it, AWESOME! Met a few guys over there from this forum, who put me on to it :thumb2

Its a 58 plate, got all the toys, bar the electric suspension.

What do you think?

Ian.

Rim tape on a GSA.....gotta be a first.

Next time I'm in Rushden if I see such a distinctive bike I'll know who you are (compared to the zillion other GS/GSA's I see every day).

Glad you enjoy the bike.:thumb2

Nice bike

Welcome Ian,

Nice to see the beast all kitted out, i would have thought tho if you came off of a Busa you would have gone for the faster Magnesium model :hide

enjoy it mate :thumb2

Thanks for the comments :thumb2:thumb2

I added the rim tape as I wanted the bike to look a bit different to all the others! :D:D

I sprayed the head guards as they were a bit marked too.

The Akropovic was already on there, and sounds lovely!

Its just covered 6200 miles, here are a few pics at the dealer when I test road it, and the day of swap over with the Busa.

The day of swap over, little and large! lol

i recognise wollastons,
was there yesterday to get my fuel gauge replaced, I live in wellingborough with my better half and we both have 06 gs adventures, will have to meet sometime,
by the way did you overtake a guy on a red triumph 675 on thurs on the A509 i think, I work with him and he said you was Riding like a real twat, NICE WORK,:thumb2:clap
had a ride out with him once and got 165 miles out of my TL1000s ( that was 55 to a gallon) before the fuel light comes on, painfully slow:nenau

Not me mate, I was in the Isle of Man on it last week!:aidan

i see it's back in their showroom today,
did you not get on with it?
could have been tempted to buy it if mine is a write-off when the insurance inspector has a look on monday but it's been sold already

I was very unhappy with the level of corrosion the bike had, crash bars, wheels, shaft drive case, rear shock, thin paint on frame causing rust, etc etc. Wollastons, after stamping my feet, were very good and replaced all the bits, but a house purchase during the 3 week 'rebuild' meant it had to go.

I havent seen the bike complete since I dropped it off, might pop over tomorrow and collect my hugger and intercom that they should of taken off.:comfort

oh well, maybe when you've settled into the house you'll get another one,

can't fault wollastons for their after sales service, top bunch of blokes,

Didn't you see them when you got it in may or has it fallen apart in 2 summer months?,shame because your busa looked lovely, still at least you dipped your toe into bmw ownership:ronno

When I test road it, I dont think it had ever been cleaned, It was the dealer demo, and knowing the reputation these bikes have as rufty tufty round the world go anywhere bikes, didnt think there would be a problem.

On swap over day a week later, the bike had been valeted, and covered in shiny laquer (Back to Black type stuff), as though to mask any faults.

Washed the bike 2 weeks later just prior to leaving for the Isle of Man, and realised that the wheels and crash bars were quite badly corroded, along with other areas of the bike. On my return a week later, (and what a great trip on the GS) went straight to Wollaston to see about a warrantee claim. The bike was dropped off a week later, to be inspected, then got a call from the service dept saying nothing is covered, and its down to my cleaning error!

Luckily I was at work when I took the call, as I was very unhappy and unable to get to the dealer, but next day after calming down, went to the dealer and sorted it out. A few days later, some feet stamping, and all sorted, the repairs ok'd.

During the repairs a house came up for sale that myself and my partner Danielle loved, offer accepted, the bike had to go to raise some money.

The bike was sold back to the dealer whilst in bits in their workshop. As far as I am aware everthing that I complained abou has been done.

Would I have another? ................Probably not. :(

I used it every day for work, 32 mile, and a week in the Isle of Man, 2400 , miles in 2 months. Fantastic bike to ride, very comfortabe, but I do feel over priced, and not as tough as the reputation leads you to think.

I got used to the sit up style of riding pretty instant, and thought that the engine had plenty of low down grunt, but towards the end I was missing the adrenaline the faster bikes give you (Blackbird and Hayabusa previous bikes)

Next bike will probably be another Blackbird, or possibly a ZZR 1200.

My 06 Blackbird.....
