Hi all

Heading to Norway in Sept and would like to get some video of our trip.

I am thinking about buying a helmet camera or similar. Can anyone recommend a decent recorder that can be mounted to the helmet or bike and can be easily switched on/off as required whilst still riding.

Would like something not too expensive, decent memory and resolution and compact

Any suggestions or comments

Thanks

firstly ask yourself what are you going to do with it? then buy the appropriate kit to cover the requirement.

nothing worse than buying something which won't work with fruck all else....

If video quality is paramount then you'll need to spend North of £300, if it's for YouTube clips and similar then a bullet cam system from Dogcam sport can be had for £215.

I bought, brand new, the Autocom version of this (exactly the same but in an Autocom box) on eBay a couple of week ago. It was on a buy it now for £150 with best offer which was accepted at £125. The same seller now has them for £225, I think someone made a boo-boo and I lucked out :D

Having said that it's the same as the predecessor to the DGS one linked to above which only sold for £180 ISTR. However, it does have the addition of a couple of leads, one for Autocom, one for Starcom, that allows you to patch it into your intercom for audio commentary, they've stayed in the box.

Prior to this I ran a AEE MD80 camera which gives OK results, however, my new bullet cam system is noticeably better quality-wise and far more versatile. Yesterday I tested a bike power option that I've cobbled together, works well and combined with a 16GB card give a good few days riding.

Still testing to get the best results possible with little time to do so, took some footage on the bike yesterday and will post up the results when I've edited and uploaded to YouTube.

There are some examples from the MD80 here. The most recent one there 'Ride out with Muttley, 8th March 2011', is with the new system but was a first attempt with the wrong video settings and a poor position for the mic.
