Just about given up on my current lid (a cheapo Takachi from Busters after I dropped my last one - :stupid ) as it presses on my forehead too much, even on a shortish ride.

Stopped at a dealer's today after my ride and tried on an Arai Condor - felt good at XL size (couldn't even get the L over my ears :D ), which seems to be a couple of cms smaller than the Takachi - measured my head and it seems to be about 60cm around. Weirdly, tried on an Arai MX lid and the XL was way too big, but the L was fine - go figure :nenau

So question is, is the Arai the only option for what is obviously an oval-shaped head - if not, what others are there?

I been trying on helmets recently - my current Arai RV will definitely need to be replaced before I do any more long trips as it is getting a bit loose.

Nitro helmets have been recommended to me by some riders and an acquaintance who works for a company that ensures products meet relevant safety standards.

However, none of the Nitro helmets I tried fitted.

So, the easy option for me is to buy another Arai RV. It's Arai's cheapest model and a decent enough helmet but an old design, quite heavy and fairly noisy. It costs £180-200 when Nitro sell perfectly good helmets for £100.

So, if you find a non-Arai helmet that fits let me know. I know some Shoei & AGV fit but they don't offer a price advantage over the Arai unless you buy some truly garish bargain bin special.

My mate swears by his Nitro - I tried one on at TT and didn't feel comfortable in it, and boy was it heavy!

I'm going to the NEC as I'll be in the UK seeing the family, so will be going to every helmet stand I think :D

i too only fit a cheap arai the rest of the range is a complete no no, i would recomend a shoei i used to work for one of the biggest clothing retailers in the country ( gay excess ) and the shoei's are without doubt now the best made helmets on the market arai quality has slipped a little in the recent years i feel, try a xr1000 or if the budget is tight the raid is available for around £150, be less at the show i bet
as for nitro well i seem to remember being told that they are bought in at a very low cost i wont say how much as some people may cry. but think on, how much would you give for your head? as this is not very repairable in the avent of damage
we had a paramedic who used to cum in the shop and his patch included the cat and fiddle and even though he only rode a little 125 he would only wear arai or shoei

I have a definitely oval head and had pressure and, after an hour or so, pain both on my forehead and the rear of my head with both Shoei and Schuberth. The Schuberth Concept was bearable but even that would hurt.

I tried an Arai and found it reasonable but the best I've found recently is the new BMW System 5. It's a tight fit but I haven't found any pressure points yet. Worth a try and still under £300 unless you want bluetooth.

FWIW, I have an FV out-the-box shaped head, and had an RV before that. Have a system 3, that with 5 mins with a craft knife on the forehead edge (now minus about 2mm depth), fits very nicely, as does my old Roof Boxer with the same treatment. Oddly, the System fitted great for the 20 mins I sat in the shop with it on, but over the first 3-4 rides it got worse and worse across the forehead untill it was killing me.

Can't begin to imagine what I'd need to do to get a Shoei to fit though; change species I would guess.
