Tried a system 5 today and seem to be stuck between sizes. Can anyone advise on how much these helments will 'give' as I am not sure at present!

I've had mine for a month and it hasn't given at all. Still as tight as the day I got her ;)

lids

if the bmw lid does not fit, it does not fit look at another brand, the best built on the market are shoei, i would suggest you look at a syncrotec if you want a flip up
arai are also good
but there is little worse than a badly fitting lid, so dont make your mind up till you have tried everything on
you only have one head and its not very repairable
cheers

On the system 4 the cheek pads and some other components come in different sizes so that you can customise for a perfect fit. I should have thought BMW carried that design flexibility over to the System 5--ask the dealer.

Tight as a gnat's chuff.

Got one 2 month's ago - went as tight as possible as per dealer's advice as they were certain it would pack out. Fit was as per "instructions" - tight but not painful - for 10mins in the showroom at least.

Has not given at all:tears and is frankly too small. Can't wear it for more than half an hour without having to pull over and take it off - feels like :bash - I think I've wasted £285 to be honest.

Very annoying as it is a top lid, and I would highly recommend it - reckon I'll end up with 2 within a couple of weeks cos if it hasn't loosened up a bit by then there's no way I'm putting up with it for the summer.

We learn by our mistakes I guess.

Topper, if your dealer recomended you buy as tight fit as possible, then maybe you should have a word with them. Giving you duff gen, so the least they could do is either swap or give you a large discount on the next helmet.

When ever I buy a new helmet, I always try to wear it in the dealer for as long as possible. If it hurts, its no good. I know this is not the best way, but it does give you some idea as to whether its too tight. :D

I`m sure as others have suggested, the System 5 also has additional sized pads that can be bought.

Bought a system 5 myself at the weekend for commuting, keep the Arai for longer trips (plan "a" currently)
The owners manual does describe alternate pads for better fitting. Luckily for me, it fits my bonce snuggly.

I am thinking of getting the System 5 soon. Would like your thoughts, from those that have them.

Cheers.

Had mine for a month now and love it. I've not had a flip-up helmet before so can't tell you about others but the System 5 seems very well thought out. It's very comfy, fairly quiet and offers very good visibility.

Absolutely recommended.

Shedracer, the usual reply, try 'em all first, then ask people who wear them. (oops, you just did)
Tried 4 different flip fronts, Nolan, Caberg, Shoei and BMW.
Not all helmet makes suit your head, my Arai is super comfortable, and the BMW system 5 feels the same, on my head at least.
My mate swears by his Shoei, but I was between sizes, and didn't like the "fit", must have a funny shaped head.
Can't comment about anything else on it yet, as I haven't been out for a ride with it, but quality and features seem to be spot on.
