I am looking to replace my system 5 lid. Looking for advice on which open face to go for. There are lots on the market at reasonable prices!

Seen 2 accidents in the past 12 months with riders/pillions wearing open face lids and ending up with serious (life changing) facial injuries, I would not even think of wearing one now.

On the other hand, perhaps the better peripheral vision leads to fewer accidents and the lighter weight results in fewer and less serious neck injuries.

Who knows?

So, were they wearing them with the front part raised and so their faces made contact with the road? Or did the locking mechanism fail and the front of the lid open up and expose the wearers' faces to the road?

Is it too simplistic a view to say that if the front face is down and locked, then the lids should offer teh same level of protection as a full-face helmet?

The OP was asking about open face helmets - slightly different to a flip front.

Sorry I meant flip front lid as opposed to open face. :blast

I'm looking at buying the Schuberth C3 Pro. Very comfortable, and very light.:thumb

I treated myself to a neotec at the NEC £320, bargain and a very nice lid .

I just cut and stuck some ventureshield to the vulnerable areas .

I picked up a C3 Pro at the NEC year before last to replace my Multitec. Done 15,000 miles since and it's worn really well. Great fit, light and very very quiet. Everything about it is quality so if you've got a Schuberth- shaped head go for it.

Hi Worthy. I use a Multitec and have found it quite noisy compared to Arai, or my full face Shoei. But the benefits out weigh the negatives. As for protection. It has a Gold stamp ACU kitemark and in the down position is good enough for the track. I ride with the front up if i, am just mincing around, and drop the front when it gets serious. Must say i like the wind in my face.

Got one today.:thumb Infinity knocked £100 off, which is more than they'll be discounting at the show (I hope:P).:beerjug:

Good choice and a great deal! I like Infinity - always seem to carry a good range in stock and really competitive prices. Enjoy the new lid :beerjug:
