Wierd but true, runs well usually, starts everytime no probs but this last few days its started to just cut out upon deceleration, if I slow for a junction and pull the clutch in it decides not to revert to tickover but instead, just for fun no doubt, to stop altogether.. leaving me either bumping it while there is any forward momentum left or keeping the clutch in and hitting the starter, which works but sooner or later will that pack in too? Apart from the obvious embarassment the real concern is the safety aspect, cutting out with some nutter right up me ass expecting me to pull off could be very nasty indeed.

Its a 2000 with 14k on the mileage, all well serviced and cared for. One suggestion was to check the wiring leaving the key barrel but that is ok with no damage or corrosion. The battery connections also are in great condition. The tickover runs steady at 13-1500 revs.......

I am totally at a loss, can anyone help at all?

I had this problem with a 650gs dakar. Found a cause and solution on the net which turned out to be the fix: it was something to do with overfilling the tank and causing a vacuum(?) - just open the filler and if you hear a hiss that was the problem, now solved.
