Can anyone advise where to get hands on a 6mm torx ratchet for the fecking bolts on this gear selector switch one is proving very difficult to remove,,:bow

Use a socket only it won't be 6mm. Can't remember what it is but they are like T25 type sizes. You will get a set at halfords, toolstation, probably even B&Q. An extension is a handy thing as well for those bolts.

Whereabouts in the Kingdom are you, Ian? I'm pretty sure I'll have what you need.

i have tried various sockets there is no room to get in there, they are male torx bolts. the bottom one is a bugger,,

One way is a small torx bit with ring spanner to turn it. The short keys in my set are about 1" long and will turn with a 10mm spanner. The small torx bits that fit screwdriver holders will turn with a small adjustable spanner.

I used a small 1/4 imperial socket drilled a hole though it & used a bar it's a bugger to get to but replace the torx with normal 8mm head bolts after.

To add to my comment about torx/hex bit and small ring spanner, use a piece of steel strip to lever against the swing arm to keep the bit in the screw head.

All usual caveats apply for paint, personal risk, disaster recovery, etc. ;)

All you need to remove the bolts holding the gear indicator unit in place is an E8 ring spanner...

Halfords also sell them.. A nice little box with four E ring spanners of different sizes with a lifetime guarantee .

A 1/4 ring will also fit might be easier to find cheap or borrow,I get fed up when manfactures spec odd sizes the fact it's a one use tool I'm all up for alternative solutions :)

Observation - 1/10.

Mine had torx socket heads. Now replaced with ordinary hex socked heads.
Gear lever previously had an E wotsit head also replaced with an ordinary hex socket head.
To be fair brother's GS, with far fewer miles than mine, does have the daft E wotsits on all three.
