Problems with my PC. had to resort to going in deep as it wouldn't even start. no icons were appearing on start up. Eventually got it going, now Avast won't start! i deleted it and reinstalled, but it says that it is UNSECURED! I click the fix it button, but bugger all happens:rolleyes:

I used to run AVG, but had problems with that! is there another free anti-virus that anyone could recomend.

hopefully i will be buying another PC very soon, but, I can't resist a challenge & would like to rectify this problem.

the best advice i could give would be a reinstall of windows. once anything gets past a virus checker a reinstall is the only sure fire way to clean it. I swear by AVG though never had any mishaps.

Have you registered it m8, thats about the only thing that will stop it running. In the security centre you can set windows to ' i am running my own anti virus software ' which will stop it telling you that you are unprotected when you actually are.

If you have done these i can't imagine whats stopping it running, i've been using it for years now with no problems at all. Infact it's used by peeps i know who really know what their doing on comps, it's become very tweakable now and has features that you usually have to pay for.

If you want to pm me your system details and what progs you are running i can have a go or have a word with the geek squad and see if i can help.

My PC skils are about on par with an infants.

firewall and virus protection are on in the security centre, but not my Avast

Ditch Avast and get MS Security Essentials, it's free (and it's better).

Ditched avast, and Spybot, now doing a full scan with MS essentials, I'll see what happens.

I have my new PC sitting in it's box on the floor. This one can't cope with the videos from my new camera.

Hmmmmmmmm, system scan has been running for 5 hours! My pc is perhaps a tad slow? LOL

Success.:)

PC now starts normally.

Thank you for your help chaps. I shall be using MS Essentials on my new PC as well.
