Help: Bike won't start

Apologies if this has been covered before, I have searched - honest!

Well, it worked fine a couple of days ago and nothing unusual in ignition start-up routine either - lights, display etc all fine. But... press the starter and click, click, click ... no whirring or other noises of any sort, except for my cursing. Have tried in gear with clutch in, in neutral with clutch out, stand up and down (bike not me) and no change, still the click, click, click ...

Any (polite) suggestions before I wave the white flag?

when was the last time you've changed the battery

knackered (or just flat) battery
