Where can I find a New BMW 4 or 5 Helmet to purchase in Scotland? Anyone have any info????? bnige

Skitland....!?!?!? :mmmm

The closest retailer of BMW System Helmets is John Clark BMW in Dundee.

Not wishing to point out the obvious, but presumably at Mottorad Central, in Bishopbriggs, just outside Glasgow - nice people. Or John Clarkes in Dundee or Aberdeen. Or there might be the BM dealer in Inverness.
Apart from them, and they are all BMW dealers, I do not know.

I would say go for the 5 in preference to the 4!

A very good helmet indeed in my not so humble opinion.

Don't be suprised if you have no luck getting one except in the 64/65 size. BMW have put a hold on them until they sort out the Bluetooth problems.

I just picked up my 64/65 System V helmet, and the lid is a great piece of kit.. much quieter than my Schuberth Concept.

What he said, even down to the size of head. And it's better for long heads rather than round. Bloody warm though, in the current unseasonable weather, unless you open all the vents and/or the visor. Gotta go get me one of them "jet helmet" modification kits...

3 helmet choice

I've been thinking of getting a new helmet. The Arai XD is good but high speeds (50+) are really bobbling my head. Time for something a little more aerodynamic! On my list are the Schuberth S-1, Shoei X-11, and BMW 5. So far what I like about each helmet is: S-1 the visor (shades), X-11 the weight, and the 5 I don't know because I haven't tried one on yet. If the 5 is a flip up, am I going to like that? My concern about the flip up is the safety, is it as safe as a full face? I don't know but opinions on this board seem to indicate it is just as safe as a full face. I really like the look of the 5 and if the Bluetooth works then that is a definate plus for me. Anyone have any experience w/ the 3 helmets I've mentioned.

The great thing about the flip up is that it gives you much more "freedom" for petrol stations, having a quick chat, blah blah blah. I've only ever used flip ups, and would be very reluctant to go for a full face for this reason.. also on a summers day, or touring europe, dawdling through towns, it's lovely (although probably technically illegal) to ride with the flip up. I couldn't imagane anything much worse than sitting in stationary traffic at lights or jams etc, on a hot day in a full face lid. of course, with the Jet modification for the System V, this will no longer be an issue!!

Well I haven't road-tested it to the full extent but the System 5 locks closed so solidly that I have no worries that in the event of "the worst happening" it will be as protective as many other helmets, and much more protective than many. I've had a Shoei XR, a Schuberth Concept and the System 5 (for a couple of weeks now) and the System 5 is certainly the most comfortable and most confidence inspiring of the three. None were bad but the finish and fit of the BMW helmet is a little better than the Schuberth and lots better than the Shoei. The System 5 inspires sufficient confidence for me to be happy thinking about turning it into a open face for many months of the year.

The flip front on the BMW isn't as easy or as wide opening as the Schuberth (especially fiddly to open if you leave the removable "skirt" in) but it works one handed and, unlike the Schuberth, the lever is easily available to either hand.

Interesting, i have a BMW 4 and since getting my GS i have been geting a stiff neck  . I put this down to the aerodynamics / weight of the helmet. as it is a few years old I was thinking of a Schuberth C2. it is only a bit lighter than the BMW but looks to have adifferent shape so MAY be better. The real plus is the drop down sun visor as i ride due east to work in the morning & west again at night. It is a real pain at this time of the year as the light can change quickly. Any thoughts or suggestions?
