I have basecamp version 3.2.2 installed on my IMac. I bought the TOPO southern England map for my Dakota 20. The map works on the device but will not show up on basecamp. I've plugged the device in with the map installed and I have tried taking the SD card out and uploading directly into the computer. When I open the SD file and go into the garmin folder I see three files. If I click on GMAPSUPP.IMG I get a warning notice saying the file could not be opened due to no mountable file system! I've run out of ideas, can you help please.

Might be a stupid question, but did you install the map onto the device/sd using Basecamp?

If not, I think you cant see it in basecamp.
Just been looking at mine and nothing shows, mapwise. You can see saved tracks though.

Cheers,
John

I have the maps on a mini SD card so I just fit the SD card into the device and It up and running. I've tried loading the maps on basecamp directly by plugging the SD card coverter into the computer but nothing happens.

I think you might be buggered there without resorting to other software to de-compile the map tiles and its a bit of a convoluted pfaff.

Where did you buy it? Can you get the CD/DVD version an make everything simpler.

Cheers,
John

i thought you couldn't use flash card maps on a computer, and that you needed the dvd. situation might have changed now? :nenau

just a thought: can you send the maps from the device to basecamp perhaps?

I think you are right but I should be able to view the TOPO map when I plug the device into my computer even if the maps do not transfer. I want to be able to view the maps on the computer so that I can set routes and review tracks which at the moment I can do.

i didn't think that was the case, but i'm a bit out of touch with garmin protocols these days.

Having spoken to Garmin today they clearly explained that TOPO maps supplied on SD cards can not be seen in basecamp this is also the same for maps down loaded. The only maps that can be seen in basecamp are ones that are supplied in CD/DVD format. What a con, trying to plan routes on a small hand held device is impractical and these maps are not cheap. I think the Garmin forum has a work around which I will give a go.
