In a bit of a rush today and managed to melt part of my plastic rain cover to the down pipe of my bike. It's made a right mess and the plastic is rock hard now. Anyone got any ideas how to clean this stuff off or am I going to be stuck with this eye sore from now on?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Richie

Yuk! That's different. Not had to solve it personally but at a guess I would suggest either wire wool when the pipes are hot and the plastic goes soft (wear some thick gloves!) or use a strong solvent of some kind when pipes cold and gradually try to melt the hard plastic. This may take some time and you may have to keep at it but it should eventually go. Last resort could be some less strong acidic solution but I would be be a bit worried what it would do to the pipes or anything else you might splash it on. I take it you have tried getting a sharp knife under it when cold. If it's thick enough it may just prize off, but careful not to scratch the pipes. Out of ideas now!
Good luck.

Scrape off as much as possible when it's hot. If the pipes aren't chromed you can resort to something mildly abrasive like wire-wool (when it's cold!) for what's left, then polish out any small scratches with metal polish.

Get the pipes nice and hot... then scrape most of it off... with something like a wooden spatula...

This will remove most of it. Then use mild abrasive for the rest.

Finish with a chrome polish.

Cheers fellas, managed to get it all over it the end. Those pipes get bloody hot quickly and managed to burn/melt everything that they touched!!
