You should be able to read more in a few weeks ,as there are about a dozen or so going there over the next few weeks.
Would I take my Girlfriend ?

My Missus had the same worries, but she cant wait to go back next year. You can get hassled, just be firm with them and they soon get the message.

Would have thought that August is not the best time to go though. We had Teperatutures of 30+ in October.

My trip report is here if you're interested,http://www.bikersoracle.com/vfr/forum/showthread.php?t=54198 ( bit long winded )

Morocco is a fantastic country......and as long as you're clear (south) of the Rif mountains, the people are on the whole unbelievably friendy and hospitable.

You'll find petty street crime in the cities, but no worse than any provincial town in Middle England....in fact, they are a lot nicer because there's no drunkenness, rowdyness or similar there......just keep hold of purses/handbags etc in crowded soukhs.

You'll get by quite easily in basic French and English- Currency is no problem whatsoever as the Euro is accepted pretty much anywhere for anything.

You can get alcohol in some bars and resturants, and in big towns in shops, and there are one or two European style supermarkets as well.....beer is really expensive (like UK prices if not more) but wine and spirits are much cheaper (look out for Bonni Prince Rupert Whisky :D)

Morocco is a wonderful place...it's a third European in style, a third Arabic and a third Afican.....it's got every sort of terrain from lakes and high mountains to deserts, white sanded beaches ( :nono  ) deep gorges, ancient history (huge Roman cities etc) and amazing market places.

I love it.....(can you tell  ;) )..go, and go soon before it's too spoilt by Western tourism (the are already Pizza huts, McShitalds and Kentucky fekcing fried chicken outlets in some main cities)

Having been to both countires, Morocco has nothing on India - you'll be fine :D

Morocco

I've just returned from a solo 10 day trip to Morocco, and in general terms I would thoroughly recommend it. My only note of caution would be that in some of the smaller towns the only accommodation can be a bit basic. In the larger places most have 'european' standard hotels such as IBIS etc. Basic accommodation was absolutely fine as far as I was concerned but her indoors might have had second thoughts had she been with me the whole trip. But if you are only paying £10 - £15 for a room its probably not too surprising. My other half flew out to Marrakech, where we had a fantastic weekend (can reccomend an excellent hotel if anyone is interested). I will certainly go again and when I get sorted I will try and post some pictures etc.

As I came out of Morocco on saturday I saw a group of GSers, presumably Tim et al who are no doubt enjoying its delights

I first took my wife in 1974. At our first 'hotel' we paid double the going rate (60p instead of 30p) so as to have the room to ourselves. But we weren't alone--wifey woke up in the middle of the night to find we had blood sucking creatures all over the bed. So after decorating the walls with blood splats by battering them with my flip flops, I turned the matress upside down, and we went back to sleep.

Anyway, she loved Morocco, albeit insisted on checking the bedding at every other hotel we visited.

Fancy finding tax inspectors in your room in the middle of the night

In Morocco, I've:

  • always been accosted by pan-handlers
  • been chased by drag-barons in the Rif
  • almost had a high-speed wipe-out on the shitey raods when it rained
  • almost had a high sped wipeout when a dog walked into my path in the Atlas
  • saw a friend almost wipeout on the sandy bone-dry roads
  • had a companion (RIP) have his Sat-Nav nicked at the border
  • have a companion almost die (some wished he had!) after eating a kasbah-burger

But, on the upside, the totty is top-class and so easy to pull. You should have no problems getting a decent 'massage and sauna' :eyebrow after a hard day's ride.

You'll get a good price for your missus in morocco , even better if she's got all her own teeth . :D

Hotel in Marrakech

Try this link: www.moroccanhousehotels.com Not a riad although rooms are in a traditional style, many of the staff speak excellent english; your lady can have a hammam/massage; located in the Ville Nouvelle about 30 min stroll/10 min taxi ride from the medina etc; lots of little cafes/restaurants around; the hotel itself does not have a bar but they appear not to mind people bringing in wine to have with dinner if you eat in. If possible go for the larger rooms rather than the standard. My bike was parked on the pavement right outside the front entrance, under the watchful eye of their guardien
