When I recently bought my Dakar it came with a set of pannier racks. Can anyone ID the manufacturer? I can't find anything similar anywhere, and I'd like to buy the panniers to fit. Excuse the crappy iphone picture....

Givi. They look very similar to the PL series racks that I fitted to an XL1000V Honda. Have a look here: http://www.givi.co.uk/Fitment-kits/PL-series/

The case sits on the two mushroom-headed bolts at the bottom of each side frame and a tongue (missing from the two bolts holes at the top) provides a latching point.

My PL kit is on another Varadero now along with a pair of panniers bought for my GSA before I splashed out on a pair of ARDcases. The point of that ramble is that the panniers came with a set of unused 'wedges'. If you want I can ask if the Varadero owner has - and can find - them. Givi might also have them as spare parts as you seem to be able to buy just about everything in the way of spares from them.

You will, no doubt, know how pricey Givi panniers are. And how wide they can be. In the interests of narrowness, the panniers that I bought were a sort of plastic version of the tassled things seen on Harleys (minus tassles!).
http://www.givi.co.uk/Side-hardbags/Monokey-/E21-CRUISER and I got them for £50 from eBay. I never used them and gave them - with the PL rack - to the Varadero owner. Although they were received by him with total derision, he now thinks them great. Their overwheling advantage over my ARDcases is the fact that they lift off the bike in one easy movement and can be easily carried into wherever you are staying. I have to faff about with inner bags and all sort of palaver.

Hope that helps

Richard.

Thanks Richard - they do look identical. I have the little wedges and other bits and bobs. Looks like some Trekker panniers are coming my way!
