Question from an (obviously) nervous mechanic.....

Fitted the footpeg lowering kit from Motorworks (quality kit, nice folks) - bike feels better already, just from a trial sit in the garage. (Thank you to Simon Eassom for info.)

The kit comes with a spacer to lower the gearchange lever but I can't loosen the current gearchange adjuster to fit it and I now wonder that ham-fisted attempts to remove it could damage the whole assembly!

How do you get the b**t**d off? Basically there are two ball joints: on the foot control itself and on the gearbox connection and a screwthread in-between. Do I force one/both of the ball joints off and then separate them? Attempts to turn the threaded adjuster either way just seems to twist the ball joints.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

BLL

gear change adjuster!

Baker,
have you removed the two circlips that hold it in place?do this and it practically falls off then try soaking it in diesel or WD overnight. It sounds like you might have knackered the circlips if you have given it too much welly with the spannner they bend very easy,it might have rusted like mine did it's a lot easier to work with when it's off the bike too.Andy

Footpeg lowering

Have you ridden it now? if so what's the improvement and if you don't mind how tall/inside leg are you? I want to do this mod and am collecting info?

Richard

Andy - Thanks for the tip! That did it: the gearchange link dropped off nicely once the circlips were removed, ta. Fortunately I had stopped to post my first message before doing too much damage to the circlips on my first attempt!

Richard - I'm 6'5" with a 35" inside leg! Feels noticeably more comfortable to ride (seat on the highest setting), especially while wearing leather trews. There are other threads on this topic back a bit, try doing a search on "lowering" and/or "footpegs" - should bring results I think. I should be at the Ace this Sunday if you want to have a look at the set-up and a fitting trial!

cheers,

Still not trying hard enough - Bakes.

I don't get it!

I too am trying to fit the footrest lowering kit. I can't see how the gear shifter can be detached. Anyone got any pictures? I've removed the two circlips. But I don't understand what is supposed to loosen. Dense I guess...

Bakes, what the hell are you doing with a lowering kit!!! Everyone that's met you knows you're a short arse!!!

hkos, if it's the same as the toungelick stuff you undo the bolt up behind the footpeg (very stiff) and remove the circlips from the ends of the threaded adjuster and they just fall off in yer 'and!:beerjug:

Oops!

Having enjoyed the comfort of more leg room for a while, I needed to raise the pegs again for a track day. Having fitted the kit (with help from this forum!) I knew how to take it off but tugged alittle too hard when trying to separate the ball joints and snapped the gearchange linkage insert section I was trying to remove. Simply ham-fisted on my part, no other excuse, but do be careful with that insert - the metal is quite thin at the collar. I can post piccies of the aftermath if anyone's interested.
