Hi
I've got a 2005 F650 GS. Last evening it stood in the rain for about 4 hours. It did start at first but died off after a few yards. It wouldn't start after that at all. We had to leave it, where it was parked. This morning it started first try.
It wasn't me riding it last night, it was my BF. He said, he took the seat off and it was quite wet under there. Is that normal? Should the water get below the seat?
I've only got the bike in October and don't know that much about it yet. This was the first time since I got it that it had to stand in the rain. It's been ridden in light rain, which was no problem.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Linda

FYI, seems you not owned the bike for long, the 650 need a bit of start up care or they do similar things as you describe.
Before pressing the starter you need to make sure the instrument lights have gone out ( the ones that do go, cant remember exactly) before pressing starter.

A good trick to try if it happens again, is reset the TPS (throttle position sensor) by turning ignition on, wind throttle fully open, wind back, repeat, turn ignition off, turn ignition on wait a second or so then press starter.

Other than that something simple like you had water in the electrics somewhere, so a good dose of wd or similar.

hope this helps

This does not apply to the BMS on the 650s but only to the Motronic fitted to the boxers.

However it is important to wait until the temp light goes out and then press the starter button with the throttle closed. If this is not done, the engine will idle badly and/or stall.
