Brother trying to get Certificate of conformaty for my 2001 GS1150 which apparently does not comply to EC standards as it was made for the Dubai market????

I need exhaust system, head light, speeedo and probably tyres apparentlt the tyres that come on BMW's imported to the UK even don't come with the correct speed rating??? this is what the guy in Exeter SVA test station said.

Trip to Spain cancelled due to all this crap, need the above parts just to get the bike redg in the UK and then swap them all back once the bike is in Spain where it will stay.

Can anyone supply the above and get them to my brother in Cornwall of course at a price???

Thanks now in much need of theropy your fellow ukgser.com member who's really getting a little pi@@ed of with all this bull$%#t

Cheers Lickardo. :clap :clap Steptoe can you rescue me???? :bow :bow

Feeling a bit better now, just realised since I'm unable to make the ferry for the 30th I will leave with my wife and Mum on the 4th September. Gives me more time to drink real Cornish ale with my brother.

He's calling motorworks tomorrow to find the needed parts.

Wish me luck Lickardo.

There's a thread about the tyres issue....basically its bollox...IIRC, TKC's (which I'm guessing is the issue) dont have a speed rating high enough for the max speed of the bike...in practice it's irrelevant, and in the MOT it's fine, but for type regs, they are more anal and won't pass it.

Do a search on TKCs abd spped ratings/type approval etc...I'm sure it'll pop up and I think it was resolved.

HTH

None of those bits available at the moment - i'm keeping what i've got, a couple bikes i'm interested in are coming up at auction, and i'll be needing bits.

Richard.......might be worth asking on the FS&W section or B&B for a loan of the relevant parts.....although I think the speedo issue can be overcome with the application of stickers or nail varnish to mark it up in MPH.

I'm sure there's some tosser out there who'd temporarily lend you a speedo/light unit ????

It's not like they're difficult to get off a bike and you'd only need them for the test ;)

PS I've got an exhaust system sitting here....OEM kit 'cos I pulled out my cat and original 'zorst....you're welcome to use those but I'm in Dartford.

Oh well...

Thanks guys for the advice, and thanks Fanum for the offer of you stock exhaust, theres no rush any more as there are no slots to get the bike tested this month, I still have my original end can and cat with me in Dubai so I will check it tomorrow morning and see if it is "E" marked if so then I will bring it over with me when I come back to the UK on the 25th Speedo will try and get a MPH/KMH one from Motorworks then I can leave it on for Spain will also try them for a headlight. I have installed small signal lights, you know the carbon look a like ones mainly because they look cool and because I needed smaller ones once I fitted the Touratech boxes, bought them in the UK and I'm pretty sure they are "E" marked or type approved, will I need the original ones for the test and do you think I will need to remove the ally boxes. that silly mud flap thingy that comes on it standard will I need that???

Oh all this officialdom is really getting me down.......money grabbing, job for the boys bastards......... :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire Lickardo....

I'm pretty sure you won't need the crud flap thing...thats a german TUV requirement.......and as long as the indimacators are e stamped they should be fine to.......though TBH if you turned up with a bag of bits like the OEM lights and dumped them on the flooor saying 'there's the bits, the ones on the bike are ok but i can fit them now if you like' and a grin, you should sail through and it wouldn't hurt just in case ;)

Will do as you said might be a good idea, just need to remember which box I packed them in, as the house is packed up ready for the off to Spain. Ohum this is going to be fun. :spitfire

On a lighter note, just had my (I know don't laugh) Harley Owners Group membership package through and my address is down as....

Richard Stallard
P.O. Box 8144
BIKE HAVE STROKER FLYWHEEL
DUBAI
8144
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

The stroker flywheel thing refers to my Fatboy which had a 103" (1687cc)kit installed for drag racing, sold the bike about 5 months ago due to the fact it was Canadian spec and would cost far too much the change to UK spec...
How its got on to my address I have no idea???? :bounce1

Is it possible to borrow the bits you need of a local GSer, then when you have the paper from ministry man swap the bits back. :nenau

Latest news...

:spitfire Brother SMSed now has speedo from Motorworks MPH/KPH headlight same price as Ocean (expensive) I have got the original exhaust which is now cleaned and in my suit case ready for the trip back to the UK on the 25th. :clap

I think thats about it, the signal lights which are packed in one of the many boxes are staying where they are and if the ones I have fitted are no good then I will get some others which are "e" marked. :thumb

Small question if my exhaust is "e" marked which it is, then what differance is there between my bike as BMW said which is made for the Dubai market and one made for the european market?????

Just wondering?? Lickardo.
