Hi all.
Need a bit of help. I assumed that my UK driving licence (two part plastic card and paper) would be all I needed to ride to Marrakech in a few weeks, but I've come across a couple of websites that state categorically that I need an International driving licence
Is this so??
help....

I have never used anything other than an EU driving licence, with out problem.

Been there twice ...

... never had to produce my UK license, never mind the International one :nenau

Should you wish to take one, it's a simple over the counter cough at designated post offices.

According to the AA website, an IDP is "recommended" -

As stated above, if you really want one, it's just a matter of turning up at a designated Post Office with a passport sized photo, fill in the form, pay a Fiver and you get one there and then. I did this, earlier this year, before I went to California last month because I don't have a photo-card licence; although I've not bothered for the past several years.

AA recomends international driving lisence for USA. U dont need one. AA sell thiese bits of paper. They would probly recomend one for Ireland.JJH

They don't - probably because you don't need a licence to drive in Ireland do you..? Surely not.....

I try and take an International driving licence knowing that if some jobsworth scammer tries to impound it that it can be safely left behind without major inconvenience. However, echoing others' experiences, the one time that I and a mate went to Morocco, there was no problem with standard EU driving licences, as long as you had your V5 with you. Not having your V5 can lead to open wallet surgery, though, as my mate found out the hard way.

Please explain

You need your V5 (i.e. proof of ownership) when you enter Morocco or you end up having to pay a fee to a 'fixer' to sort it with customs. If this is your first time visiting Morocco, you can find (as my mate did) that the fixer's fee miraculously inflates as he spots opportunities to add fanciful charges.

The moral of the story in this case is, if your mate who does the research says that you NEED to bring your V5, that it would be a good idea to bring the bloomin' thing.
