I have just got a 2610 c/o the Maplins offer but need a power lead urgently.

I have read the thread started by Rushy on same and know that I need the bare ended Garmin jobby as sold by GPS Warehouse but....they are out of stock and I need to get the thing powered up by next weekend. I cant find the same cable on sale anywhere in the UK and anyway I need it delivered to Ireland.

I was planning on butchering the car lead and hard wiring it to either the battery or the back of the socket. But... I want to get the voice prompts into my helmet.

Could I replace the speaker with a female 3.5mm jack socket and simply plug my headphones into this?

If all this works I could then simply buy another car lead for use in the car...

Does this sound feasible? Any other (quick) fixes?

Ta...

I have just done all this stuff on a 276C and expect that you could simply tee into the cable you have for the car to supply power and fit a 3.5mm jack for your earphone to connect with. That way you do not have to destroy the functionality of the car kit.

In the manual it should, if at all on a par with the 276C, show the colour coding of the cable and then it is simple to carefully cut out a section of the outer sheath and tee into the two power and two sound conductors. On my unit 12v+ is red and earth black, with voice + brown and - orange. The conductors are quite fine and need care in removing insulation and tinning with solder to make any durable connection.

If you need more just ask, and if nearby I will be happy to lend practical assitance.

The SP2610 does not have it labelled but red is positive and black is negative and the other 2 wires can only be the speaker
