HELP - Retro or contemporary?

I'm looking for a weekend good weather mucking about bike, for use on green lanes, country lanes and days out.

Now I'm tempted to get a late 70's XT 500, but have also considered a relatively new DR or WR etc.

any thoughts would be welcome

With the old rose tints on the Yam is an excellent off road bike, BUT as a mate found out when he decided that he had to have an original 1974 Honda XL250 Motorsport it wasn't a patch either on road or offroad in comparison to his mid 90's CRM250 never mind a newer DR or WR.
If you want it as an investment and for posing around on then fine but I would buy something newer and lighter

hmmm, yeah I was thinking the same, the classic XT would be purely a pose machine, one for the future maybe. For Sunday ride outs in the country.

I'll go for a newer one and get injured, grin a lot and then trade it!
