Hi Folks, I have a problem with my Zumo 550 can anybody offer any info

No mapping of B roads on the screen (main roads ok) however it shows all the camera's and gives me directions!

It won't except UK postcode's as it still thinks its in france!!!! if I ask it for the nearest garage (fuel) it come up with french one's.

I have updated the mapping still no better, also removed the battery for 24hrs.

Any sensible advice greatly recived.

Has it acquired satellites fully in the UK?

Is the mapping you want to see been selected? BTW I can't remember how to do it on the 550 but it'll be something like tools -maps - info.

I had this happen to me once after an update. I hadn't let it go through all it's update stages (it seems to take forever) Anyway, I reloaded the mapset and all was well.

Might be worth checking on the unit and making sure that you have the mapset on and selected correctly.

It sounds like you're operating off the basemap, in the UK at least. I'll wager that you have one of the following scenarios:

  • Some of France on a supplementary mapping file and a corrupt or missing primary mapping file
  • An independent POI set with French petrol stations and a corrupt or missing primary mapping file
  • A mis-loaded update to your primary mapping that has excluded the UK

Did you do the update via the on-line updater? The Zumo will not fit the whole of Europe on these days and you need to select what bits you want. You might still be able to clear just enough room by deleting unwanted voices etc. but I think this is now unlikely as the mapping swells in size with each iteration.

You should be offered an option of various regions in Europe to load as part of the on-line update process, you need to select the region of Europe you want. There are alternative ways to create your own custom mapping set or put some, or all (not recommended), of the mapping on an SD card. However, these are a little involved.

Try doing another on-line update as Parky suggests, take note of the various dialogue boxes and take appropriate action, Eventually it will tell you that it needs a few hours to do as you wish. Leave it running overnight and try it in the morning.

N.B. By default it won't save the update to your PC, you have top select this.

The latest version of the Garmin updater "Garmin Lifetime Updater" does not support the 550 properly DAMHIK

I had to do the update on mine the old way, where you need to select both system and PC to load the mapset onto, and ony put western Europe onto the 550 directly. Then using Garmin Map Install put the rest onto a memory card.

I have the revised instructions from Garmin which I can email to peep's if you PM me

Its a 100% failure rate on the 660 as well AFAIK.

Really the 660 has 4GB same as my 765 which updated to 2012.30 without a problem. Admittedly I did have a clear-out and deleted unwanted voices etc. There's only 137MB remaining on the internal memory now, in one or two more updates I reckon I'll be needing to muck around doing custom map-sets :(

Gents, thanks for the info, I'm sure the problem is me. As last year I did a update marking out the area I wished to update and I recon I cocked it up as I lost some mapping in France last year:blast.

So thanks once again. I'll post up results after some investigation:thumb2

cheers

This statement makes me think you're an old-hand Garmin user. You're not clicking map tiles in Maprource and using the 'send to device' to load these are you? This would explain the fact that it's finding mapping elsewhere (France) but not for the UK. There are two types of mapping data files in your Garmin, Primary and Supplementary. The Primary mapping is overwritten by updates, the Supplementary by 'send to device' in Mapsource. If you have a Supplementary file that can take a lot of space and choke an update.

Ok folks as promised update, After the word MAPSOURCE apeared a little light flashed on in my head, Got a new computor last year did'nt transfer Mapsource, (what a Knob!!) so set up old computor reset all things on Mapsource did the update Via Mapsource and not direct from Garmin. hey presto!!!!!! every thing back to normal, tryed it out yesterday with a run down to Cornwall all systems go.

So thanks to everyone who offered words of wisdom.:clap

Cheers
