due to suffering a puncture on a very worn rear tyre (which I successfully fixed with the BMW puncture kit) :bounce1, i have had a rear Knobbly tyre fitted a week or so before i was planning on getting them changed.

so i currently have (only for a day or two) a front Dunlop Trailmax 607F and a rear Metzeler Karoo (T)

is it less "bad" to have this combination than a road tyre on the rear and a knobbly on the front that struggles for grip etc.....?

it's not a big deal and i'm not worried in the slightest, i just thought i'd put it out there for discussion...? :nenau

cheers :thumb2

You may sell them but riding with them? During an end to end (Alaska to Ushia Cape Horn ), we used a knobbly on the front for very many miles as it improves handling on dirt roads and lets you use a better milage tyre on the rear. Some miles also done on roads as well (1000s not single miles) and the handling was good bit noisey and tended to drop in to beds a bit quicker but never a probllem. So don't worry at all I've done it (along with quite a few others) and I can assure you of no ill effects, mabe lost someone a sale but thats how it is. The front steers through mud which us the main prob, if the back slips a bit that is controllable front slips and usually disaster follows.

100% for gravel and tar conditions here run TKC/Karoo front and K60 Heidenau at rear all the time:beer:

if it stops when you pull the front brake on and goes when you open the throttle then the tyres are working.

anything else that happens over and above this is your fault :thumb2
