Would like to inform you about a nice event going from Paris (Eiffel Tower) to Dakar 7 to 21 of march 2009.
You can go off road or on tarmac roads.
Route made for experienced pilots and also for beginners with shorter stages.
3 categories available :
Classic - for old off road bikes till 1996
Open - for any bike
Bivouac-Bivouac, for any off road bike or trail who dont want to go too much off road.
2 weeks, 6000km

When I spoke with'em ages ago they said my Hp was too new and therefore not able to join... then low and behold they change the date and make a new class to allow any bike in.

Spoke to Hubert Auriol at length about this a couple of years ago, he almost persuaded me to enter.

Wish I had done, but getting the time off work to do this would prove difficult now.

What are the entry fee's? What sort of budget do you need for extra's? eg food, tyres ect...

Solo on the Airhead which is being prep'd by Bernie Wright at the moment.

You need 2 weeks and two days

Budget...... about 2.5 X's more than I've told m kids !

Entry on a classic bike 7,100 euro's
Logistic costs for the rally (fuel, start/finnish hotels, etrax rental and flight home) 3,000euro's
Box transport by the HL team 1,500 euro's or with a support team like team desert rose tbc but I'm assuming 2-2,500 euro's
plus other cost which could be counted as rally cost - ride gear, bike prep and lots of odds and sods.

It's a life goal for me and in 2009 I'll be 50 so I can sort off justify it, just!... But it will mean I'll have to put of changing the car and knocking some capital of the mortage.

It also creates the opportunity for me to raise money for Solar Aid so all donations welcomed ;-)
