got a 2001 650gs with 20k on the clock, bought it with broken selectors in the gearbox. fitted new selectors and checked all gears & dogs for any signs of wear as i know the boxes were prone to problems. only broken selector found and i replaced all of them while dismantled. put it all together and runs great, gearbox lovely and smooth.
when in second gear, accelerating hard at 4,000 rpm the bike hesitates for a split second as if you missed a gear or the ignition cut for a split second. you can roll on and off the throttle in second and it will hesitate at 4,000 rpm every time. the clutch is not slipping, definitly not missing a gear, not jumping out of gear, no faults stored in the ECU.
i reckon this caused the selector fail in the first place. any help would be great. :nenau

My Dakar had a similar cutting out problem once - it was caused by a loose battery connection. Worth a try!

Does it only happen under load? - fuelling problem or coil/HT problems

Does it happen when revving in neutral? - electrics/ignition

Could just be a bad time for the fuel/ignition mapping at those revs under a certain load.

Could try disconnecting the lamda probe and see if that makes a difference.

Does it only happen in 2nd gear? - gearbox related?

Good luck..........

under load: yes
second gear only: yes
jump out or miss a gear: definitly no
HT fault ?, i would expect a misfire in other gears
going to disconnect lambda and try it otherwise fuel mapping ?:nenau
thanks for the replies and when i get any further i will let you know :beer:
