Hi, I am new here and just about to take the plunge on a new GS to run during the winter and sit alongside my HD Nightster during the winter nights.

I rode a demo today and just loved it - so easy to ride, either pootling or pressing on. However, after the HD, I did find the standard can on the GS a little muted. So, the question is, what is the preferred can of choice for these twins? The Akrapovic (nearly £600 gulp), a Remus (the dealer recommended) or anything else?

Much appreciated.

The tone from the can seems to improve over the first few hundred miles, personally wouldn't bother changing the can for a bit until you find you definitely don't like it.

I love the sound of the original can.
I'll be sticking with it.

I've got a Remus Hexacone on mine. Nice noise without being too loud :).

However, it sits closer in to the bike than the standard can and will fry the numberplate, unless you put some kind of extra backing behind the plate ...

Hey, just noticed - is this thread a meeting place for the Sheffield 800 club?:P

Feeling a bit left out here, being from down south.;)

Guess you northern guys like the 800 then?

I guess so (great on Sheffield's potholed roads) - at least one of us is a girl tho':P

Then my apologies to that girl for the figure of speech.;)

Magnet... is that the demolished pub ?

My username comes from a couple of incidents in Germany, after which my 'friends' named me the 'Armco Magnet'...:(

PS No offence taken Skyman:)

Well, I agree about the exhaust, so I went for a Beowolf, dead easy to fit, decent price and sounds a hell of a lot better than the original, plus you can take the baffle out for extra woooomph !!

I've also been looking at Beowulf... however I wanted to know about volume. I'm out all sorts of hours and could end up being none too popular with my neighbours - how much louder is it at low revs, say 2-3000?

Its not overloud, just better than the sewing machine original.

I have the baffle out and its certainly not obtrusive.

If you're just tootling its fine.

Stop press - the question is now academic! Returned to the dealer today, rode a 1200GS ........... and bought that instead. Collection next Saturday (1st). Great service from Russ at Riders in Cardiff.
