Hi Guys bit of a problem

Williams Motorrad in Manchester didnt turn mine off even though they did the full service.
I rode it for a full year and when i was services again, i said... "Oh and can you turn the service light off this time"
on the 1200 it only comes on for a few seconds each time you start the bike, so not too bad.

As others have said, you can manipulate the service data on a TFT model with a GS-911. See my thread https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/opinion-on-resetting-service-on-lc.351439/page-2
You need someone with a 911 (or Motoscan maybe but I have not used Motoscan). It costs about £40 unless you have a professional 911 (because it uses a "life" on a 911 to add your VIN to the VIN list).
There are folk offering the service on ebay for as little as £20 ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18464312...B4PRuP4VEKG0tUh95/LW4CKg==|tkp:Bk9SR7TBmbKqYg

Cheers guys
changing the date is not a bad call, and you are all correct if they had said it will be £40 or so to turn it off id be there now !! yes I do change bikes quite a lot and do tend to use the local dealers for all work and parts, this has left a bit of a shitty taste in my mouth, maybe ill find another BMW dealer, these did seem to be a bit more accommodating when they were Cannon !!

Rob
Hi Rob, it would be great if you could call the guys at Reiten BMW and ask them if they would turn off the service reminder. Give them the history and tell them that Sycamore refused to help out in the matter. Reiten set themselves out as a very customer-centred dealer.
If they can't help, then ask if they have to follow orders from the mothership.
er-minio sound wonderfully helpful.

Cheers guys

They are an odd bunch. I had my K1600 serviced there and subsequently went back in because I was interested in the service package. They basically could not be bothered to sell it to me and told me not to bother. Bizarre sales (or non-sales) technique. Perhaps as mentioned elsewhere it is orders from mothership. Park Lane will be able to tell you?

Just for a laugh, ive just spoke to Reiten and they point blank refused to reset the light as they did not service the bike, even though I said I am aware I will have to pay a labour charge !!
never heard of BMW turning away money before !!

Rob

If I were you Rob, I'd be on the phone to the dealer who sold me the bike and telling them "it has a "glitch" and isn't running as it should and I'd like it diagnosed on the computer please.....and while you're at it, reset the service light as well..."

Neither have I. That's poor customer service. Despite mine not having been serviced at Cotswold Motorrad, they did some work including a software update and checking fault codes yesterday without complaint and couldn't have been more helpful. I'd ask the manager why they're unwilling to do this when other BMW service centres clearly will.

Is it not due any free updates or recalls and maybe then they'll turn it off lol
Did you change the internal date yet. My pal has just done it on his 1250gs home serviced.

The Saga continues !!
took the bike to what used to be Cannons on Saturday to have the faulty front TPS replaced, which they did to be fair without issue, I explained the situation once again re the service and duly produced the receipt for the 1st annual service from a VAT registered Honda dealers only to be told that for them to reset the service light was (and wait for it ) Illegal !!
I questioned this with vigor, I am no solicitor but I knew that was complete bollocks, I asked what law it broke, as surely the prisons are not full of BMW employees that have been convicted of ill gotten service light turning off, he then back tracked and said BMW have sent out a bullet-in saying that they are not allowed to do it, I explained that BMW UK had told me that if I produced the VAT receipt stating that the bike had been serviced using genuine BMW parts in accordance with the BMW servicing schedule that any dealer would turn it off however there may be a nominal charge to do so, they questioned me asking if I got that in writing and if I had the name of the BMW employee I spoke to at head office, obviously I did not !! as I felt myself getting more and more wound up and didnt feel they would have done the job on the bike if I had picked their service guy up and threw him out through the showroom window I conceded the point, and will now just wait till November when the 2nd annual service is due,
this has left such a bitter taste in my mouth, I have been using Cannons now Sycamore since my first GS back in 2000 but seriously Ill be fcuked with the rough end of a pineapple before ill go back to them, this has shown exactly what happens to a family run business when bought out
I will order a new 1300GS when available but will find another BMW dealership, one who is just a touch more flexible and understanding
thanks to the guys who offered to reset the light for me on there GS911 thats very kind and in the spirit of this site

Rob

I would have called BMW UK there and than and put the rep on speaker. Did they produce the written bulletin?

Zoltan I would have done mate but it was last Saturday so no chance of anyone being there, they also added that they could not prove it by showing me the built-in due to data protection, another load of bollocks but I was getting so frustrated I thought better to just walk away than to thrust my fist into his brain cavity !!
the problem ive got is the bike is so good, and everything I need at the moment with all the bits ive done to it so comfortable I really do not want to get rid of it, but if I do it will be the last BMW bike ill ever own, just because of the pedantic attitude, Suzuki are doing 7 year or 70k warranty now as long as you have the bike serviced on time by them !!
Rob

This story and the Can’t do, arrogant attitude of a fair few of the UK Motorrad dealers is the main reason that I won’t be buying anymore of their products!

I must admit its left such a bad taste in my mouth its unbelievable, I honestly do not know if ill buy another BMW, although i also have a BMW car as well !!

Rob

Sadly, it's the luck of the draw. I know a guy local to me with a GS who won't take it to Lovetts because of the service he encountered but will travel the extra distance to Cotswold Motorrad instead now. Sadly our only local indy bimmer specialist is closing his doors for good but at least Cotswold imho usually offer great service and customer care.

I had a bad experience with a 1200GS reliability at the 5 year mark, it put me off the brand entirely. But I was tempted back by the 1250RS, at the time it was the choice sport touring bike with few decent alternatives and just an excellent package. Never say never again!

Took my K1600 in for a service last week (same dealership - Sycamore, Witham).
"Do you intend to keep the bike?" Yes, says I. "In that case, the service next year is a biggie - £700. If you take out a service plan today, at £810, we will include today's service, next year and the year after"
I'm no actuary, but that seems like a good deal to me.

Define biggy? oil and filter change is not a service, but it appears to be elevated to a new level of service

I had similar with my Subaru, I phoned the dealer about some maintenance work

"OH" says the dealer "you have a service overdue" "Which one" says me "Its an oil service" came the reply its £400+ vat

And what do i get for that oil service i inquired ?? "We change the oil and filter" says the dealer

"So for £70 worth of parts you charge me £400+vat" "Yes" says the dealer" "when would you like to book it in? "

So for an oil change it's £400 ! Are you busy i inquired? "No" said the dealer , Not surprising was my reply

£54 in the end at an indy

My mate was quoted £1500 for an oil change on his car.... and that was an indy!

Diabolical to be honest my bike has done 1800 miles and is due a £199.00 service in December which they have no problem doing in November at all, but left till January it will be overdue and could invalidate the warranty !! what a crock of shit, these people are piss taking bastards, I just got a price from we buy any bike £10985, another load of piss takers, the bike owes me around the £14k mark if I could find something I really fancied and that genuinely was as good as the RS id take there money and be out of the BMW we will take you for everything we can trap

Somebody has to pay for the swanky main dealer showrooms (us) it's the same situation with cars. My main stealer tried to get me to have the aircon serviced when I booked it in for a service via their central booking office. Looking back through my receipts it was only done 12 months before during it's previous annual service so they were really trying it on as it's a 2 year interval so I'm guessing the lady who tried to get me to have it was on some sort of bonus/target. The cost of that was going to be more than the service itself. Er no thanks.... looking online I can get it done at any of the usual tyre, battery and exhaust places for nearly half the cost using the same gas.
