Hi Everyone!
New to this site and don't own one... yet!
Thinking of trading my VFR in for one but worried about all the corrosion and fuel problem threads
Are all the problems worth the ride?

Hi Eujy
Yes in a word. See if you can get one for a full day and ride it on the midrange, much as you would with a VFR.
Enjoy.

Cheers Bem
I am busy for the next couple of weeks so a test ride might have to wait.
I have been to my local dealer and had a chat with them. They say the same and advise that I take one out for a long ride as you can't appreciate them in half an hour.
My concern was the amount of threads about fuel, gearbox and corrosion problems... OK under warranty but when that runs out.... ouch!!!

Dont worry about it - the VFR is not perfect nor is the BM but, having just done exactly the change you are thinking about, I know which is the more fun :D.

I have not reached the 1000km service on my GS yet but I am already hooked on it. Before I bought the beast from the very fine gentlemen at CW's I did a test ride in the rain on the little country lanes ariound Dorchester, complete with the finest Dorset mud and cow s**t on the roads etc. On the VFR it would have been an absolute nightmare on the GS I got back to CW's and I was still laughing at the fun I'd had (and because I didn't have to clean the bike!!). It seemed as the condition of the road really didn't upset the bike at all and I could just concentrate on the riding and having some fun.

Only time will tell if any corrosion/fuel problem will affect your bike but VFR's were not immune to these and other issues such as dodgy finish on the fork lowers, regulator rectifiers, bendy keys, VTEC induced service bill nightmares (£500+ for a 16,000 mile service )

Do it and if you dont like it try something else- life is too short for what ifs

Cheers

Welcome to the forum :thumb2

There's quite a few ex-VFR owners, so they can't all be wrong.

Thanks everyone for your comments:)
Gonna go down to the dealers tomoz to arrange a test ride:clap YAY!!!

Had a GS a couple of years ago and have now just agreed to buy another one, after a gap of a couple of bikes.

So yes, can't wait to get back on a GS - brilliant bike!

You will hear of odd issues but, equally, you won't hear of the hundreds of satisfied riders.

Hi Eujy & welcome. :thumb
I jumped off a ZZR1100 to the GS range 4 years ago, hav`nt stopped smiling since, huge fun :)
Take the offer of a lengthy test ride, you definately won`t be dissapointed.

what you waiting for ;)
summer's nearly here.

I have ordered a GS after a days test ride and I can't wait to get it. I think the amount of sales convinced me and the fact that it Was Charlie and Ewans choice to travel thousands of miles on so reliability can't be that big an issue.............................I Hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been down and booked a test ride next Sat :bounce1
I hope I come back beaming (geddit?) and feeling like all you guys do about the bike. If I do, I'm ordering one!!!
10 grand  but hey... its only money!
