I've been riding around for a few weeks now with my lovely bright HID conversion and have, like others, mounted the ballast under my Migsel light bar.

Doing some work on the bike this morning I noticed these marks on the l/h fork.

Seems to have hit the edge of the ballast the other night when two up and pottering down a bumpy lane.

I shall mostly be making a new bracket this week to move the ballast slightly further forward.

Been there, did that.
Fooking fork-legs move forward when suspension compresses.
You need the rear edge of the ballast no further aft than rear edge of the oilcooler.

Spotted that when I mounted mine  so only mounted one hid and in the centre of the bracket.
Is the Migsel bracket designed to take a ballast box, I know you can put anything you want on it, but is it mounted to far back from the oil cooler?

Just to clarify, here's the ballast from the side, roughly centred on the centre line of the oil cooler

and here's the clearance between ballast and fork on full lock (on centre stand).

Normal riding wouldn't seem to be a problem, however, two up, full lock and a pot hole on a rutted lane and clearance obviously ain't enough :o

I see what you mean with the clearance, when I fitted mine I was a bit unsure about hitting the fork legs, so I compressed the front end, loose fitted the ballast then got on the bike and leaned all my weight foward.
All seemed a bit extreme then but glad i did it.

Where did your bracket come from Les? Thinking ahead you see ;)

I've got another one now as well, cheaper, easier to fit and safer :thumb
