The last time I fitted HID to a GS1200 I had an annoying situation occuring.

If I did not wait for the bhike to go completely through all its 'checks' before starting the bike the HID's would not fire up. This resulted in a LAMPF warning and no dipped beam.

Anyone else have this - or know a cure - or is it 'they all do that'

I plan fitting another set to a new bike but curious before I start.

Don't have that problem with the Kits we sell, were the HiD's you fitted before the older bigger ballast style or the new Ultra Slim ones?

I am sure Mr Walsall from the parish will be along to give you chapter and verse, however I have a not dissimiliar situation , I sometimes get LAMPF on startup, maybe once every 15 startups - Not the end of the world and it seems to be getting better - however it still makes me scratch my head as I am not sure why. :nenau

Im sure i saw some peice of plug in kit the other day that stops this problem.... Something to do with the canbus system.... im sure the more well informed 1200 guys on here will sort you out.

I used to get this each and every time I removed and replace dteh headlamp unit. The actual cause was the pilot bulb.To remove it takes a fair bit of pulling on teh rubber housing, and a fairly hard poke to get it back in again, all done in hard to get at place. The result was a flaky connection on the bulb, or a break in the wire somewhere. This will cause a LAMPF failure being reported... When you get the LAMPF is your pilot light Ok ?

on the bm cars u get a piece of extra kit to stop warning lights, think its a resistor(maybe)

.
Initial current for igniting the HID lamp is 3-4 times bigger than operating current and may cause a failure report from the controller.
I´m not shure how the the reading of ballast response is interpretated whilst
scanning through the checks - may depend on different ballast types.
.

I get the odd Lampf when my battery is not at peak due to a couple of short journeys, and all the bits switched on, this cold weather does not help, a night on the Opitmate or after a good run and no problem, always switch any aux off before starting as the Canbus will try to send all the power to the starter.
And my battery is only five months old.

And a very good point from CityBum, even seen this on a new bike with a poor quality pilot bulb.

yes keeping battery in good condition is useful for some reason - mine is 4 1/2
years old and fine. Guess this will be basically prevent lack of voltage for
any controllers. Since mounting HIDs I had never probs with a failure. But
during cranking battery voltage will drop under 9V most of the times.
Does it make sense to let the booting process finish before starting ?

Same happened to me

Set off from the filling station without waiting for the checks to complete and found myself in commuter traffic with no lights

Stopped and did the computer thing - turned it off & on again - and all was well :thumb2

Interesting all this - so it was not just my bike.

I was considering adding another switch so as to fire the lights when the bike was started.

Other issues I encountered were.

If monitoring Tyre pressure control - after approx 10 miles of riding I would lose the communication and so would result in a yellow warning light appearing.

Other issues occured all after fitting the HID.

Wassall's fitted

Fitted dipped and main Wassall's on my R1200GS last night. Really nice kit with no drilling or assembly. Awesome light show!

Had the problem mentioned above after I did first start to go "oooo, aaaah", then subsequently started to go for a ride. Seems low battery after two starts in a row made the fault. As soon a bike warmed up/battery charged no more fault. Looking forward to getting some FF50 extra HiD!!!

Woowooo bright nights! (also filtered past some Police just now and not even a sniff so obviously not too dazzling!)
