HIDS - Small burst of light on ignition switch on

I've just installed 50w HIDS on both main and dipped beams on my 1200GS.

I've noticed that as I switch the ignition on the dipped beam HID flashes once very briefly.

Is this normal, and if it is, will it cause any damage to either the bulbs or ballasts?

Perfectly normal as far as I'm aware.

Does it with mine also and no issues with them fitted for best part of a year.

My 1200GSA HID lights do that aswell, perfectly normal so i'm told

This is the initial charge that the running ballast gets from the igniter box, and is correct, if it does not do that you will find the battery is to low and the HiD will not light, switch of and start again, that will start the light and clear the Canbus, if it happens often time for a new battery.
