After a new clutch 800 miles ago, today my beloved 1200 gsa `08 developed a high pitch whine/squeal, and oil pouring out of bell housing. Any ideas. It has been recovered to Bahnstomers, So my Shropshire weekend is not looking good. Has any one else had something similar.

It sounds like a gearbox blow up to me, is it transmission oil?
You dont have to look you will smell it a mile off, it has a distintive gear oil smell.

Prety sure its engine oil, wrong colour and smell to be gear oil. Should hear today, but i did think gerabox because of the noise.

The clutch isnt slipping, thats the odd thing, the noise increases with revs and reguardless of where the clutch lever is. Not looking good.:blast

sounds someone at the shop must have muppetted about while changing the clutch....

You dont seem to be having much luck.... If I recall, yours is an 08 GSA - you just had a new final drive, and now a new clutch. WTF? Lemon of a bike?

Hang on a minute, new clutch on a 08 bike and now balance shaft gone?
Very worrying and easy to see how prospective buyers would be put off entering the world of the GS1200.
I wonder if BMW would consider getting BRP-ROTAX of Austria to make all their engines in the future, as they do for the F800 range where there are very few reliability issues with what is a superb and well proven engine? Food for thought eh?....:augie

Update:-

Bahnstomers have phoned me, the lugs that secure the balance weight to the shaft have sheared off, so new bearing shaft, wieght and seals. not in uk, germany onlyn (:blast)
So weekend to shropshire not a hope :blast

That will be a month off the road while they wait for the bit and then fit you in around all the other stuff booked in! It's a bummer to be sure.:blast
